some comments in another thread on tips to try on the snow made me realize i talk to myself constatnly while skiing. as a general rule "having fun" to me includes getting better. to get better i try to remind myself things to do while skiing (*note - not that they are the right things to do, but at least what i think is the right thing to do).

things i tell myself:
1. get your weight forward
2. use the front half of your ski
3. jam your shin into the boot, keep your heels back.
4. (when in bumps) drive your tip down into the next bump
5. (when cruising) show the guy next to you the bottom of your skis
6. (when cruising) use your toes to turn
7. (when not in bumps) wide stance, wide stance, wider is better.

Yesterday I was counting my turns...on a top to bottom run at Stowe...I linked 50+ turns..which is alot of turns for me...about one turn per 40 vert although I didn't make any turns at the bottom or top..

Sometimes I just sing really loud...I was singing the theme song to Silver Spoons yesterday....Here We Are Face to Face a Couple of Silver Spoons..lol

Its not just skiing I talk to myself all the time.

I kept saying to myself Sat and Sunday. " Whiteface mountain doesn't have bumps"
Friday it was " we dont have powder here at whiteface mountain".

I sing out loud when I ski. Caught myself singing this little ditty at Killington on Sunday:

Spent a little time on the mountain
Spent a little time on the hill
I saw things getting out of hand
I guess they always will

I don't know but I been told
if the horse don't pull you got to carry the load
I don't know whose back's that strong
Maybe find out before too long

I will talk to myself when skiing, but I find that just like when I talk to myself while golfing, the less things I'm trying to think about, the better the result.

The 2 most common thoughts I have while on the hill are:
1) shin pressure on the tongue of my boots
2) (when carving big arcs)The inner surface of my downhill knee should be somewhere around the inner surface of my uphill boot cuff

occasionally I'll also tell myself to "un-scrunch" my toes

Generally though the brain is paying more attention to mapping out where I want to make my next couple of turns then it is thinking about technique

Yes, quite a bit. I also provide myself with pieces of commentary/sound effects like "hit that" "now" or "whoa!" and of course their expletive counterparts.

I really do not talk to myself while skiing. I am a 50-50% mix of Polish and German blood and the two sides do not get along.

I find myself humming a tune while I kayak serious whitewater to overcome the fear of death by drowning, but that's another matter.

Do you mean like actually talk out loud to yourself? I usually only do that when I screw up, then I belittle myself. Sometimes I pull some good bit of skiing out of my ass though, then I'll praise myself. Other than the I keep the voices in my head for the most part.

I don't ever talk to myself. I see plenty of people around me, who are apparently invisible to most everyone else, with whom I can carry on some fairly long conversations.
