Driving up from Baltimore - is Killington going to be worth it?

We are thinking about driving up to Vermont for 4-5 days starting saturday.

(5 kids and 2 adults!)

We were thinking Killington or Okemo, but are open to suggestions.

Will it be all slush, rain and snow, do you think? What do your crystal balls say?

It's a long haul to Vermont from little ole' Baltimore.

Tell me what to do! (ManySkills shaking head unable to decide what to do)

What kind of skiing are you looking for? I'm going to guess with the kids, mostly greens and blues and such? As of yesterday, Okemo still has a lot of good cover. Not sure what the rain tomorrow is going to do to it, but I bet a lot of terrain will hold on. I think Okemo is an easier hill to ski with a family than Killington. Expect spring snow.

Welcome to the boards and let us know how your trip goes.

Do you like spring skiing conditions (i.e. soft, wet, heavy snow or "corn snow" on a good day, firm MG/FG conditions on dark cold days)?

Weather for next week up here in the Rutland/Killington area is warm with some on an off rain showers.

Weather is looking shaky at best for K and Okemo from Sat into next week. That being said, you should head to Vermont regardless. You should get in some good turns and be relatively crowd free your whole trip. Many deals to be had as well. Go for it.

obviously expect spring conditions. with 5 kids especially if they're young/beginners, i'd say you'd be better off at okemo. killington is closing ramshead (beginner/low intermediate family area) after this weekend. and yeah what greg said about skiing at okemo w/ a family.

times 2..

The Wasatch has been getting hit nicely as well. Cheap flight into SLC, ski the same day for free, 3 more days in BCC and LCC with a cheap suite in Sandy or Midvale, fly back Sunday night and make it to work Monday monring. Very doable. Prolly end up costing you the same as coming to Vermont. OH, did I mention that it's been dumping out west?

Factor in free skiing on day 1 (for 7 people), cheaper lift tix than Vermont for the rest of the trip, very cheap lodging in and around SLC, and a $20/day rental car, you can make it wash. I've done it many times. Trust me, you can make the costs wash out to almost even.

Things that are cheaper in Utah than Vermont:

Lift tix
Lodging
Beer
Liquor
Food
Fresh powder.

If you shop a bit, you can make it wash.

Um ... what is SLC? I've skiied for a gazillion years but for some reason that doesn't track...

Based on your suggestions, I started checking out lodging info for Okemo already. (no commitments made yet ..)

But now I am definitely going to check into flying west as an option!!

Thanks! Any more ideas, keep 'em coming

You guys rock

The slopes should be fine, but with five kids, I'd be more worried about the rain days. You know it's gonna rain at some point. It's been raining on and off here for two weeks. What you gonna do on a rain day. Or if it turns into two rain days?

Why is that crazy? 5 of the people are small children. What's the problem? Me thinks you hit your head a little harder than first thought when you fell of your coach with skis on.

So you can rent a van for $20 a day????? You are always wrong..
