What are the unique things about winter that you like the most?

- The squeak of snow underfoot when it's very cold
- Driveway that remain snow-packed for weeks
- Pine trees, heavily laden with snow
- Germany's Black Forest after a snowfall

the clean look of the outdoors after a storm
the snow laden evergreens and trees
the peace and solitude of the fireplace and a well stocked larder during a blizzard :D
skiing with my wife and kids and grandkids
peaceful reflection on a cold winter's nite

I love the quiet after the storm too, and the coziness of the fire.

Of course, it makes everything prettier, even the streets in a busy city.

I love how it slows down the pace of even the biggest metro areas. Its like a mini-vacation sent from Mother Nature. I guess it probably forces people to spend more time with their family too, when work and school are canceled and the roads are treacherous so people don't leave the house.

I like that when you have a party, you can store beer outside in the snow and save fridge space for things like bacon. Also, keeping beers on ice while in the hot tub is key too. Heck, for that matter, it makes hot tubbing that much more enjoyable and romantic. Plus you can get drunk and pretend your Swedish and roll in the snow and jump back in.

Oh, and I heard when it snows, there's this thing called skiing that is quite enjoyable too.

That it's finally here!
The thump, thump, thump, thump of the chair when it goes over the lift tower rollers
That first breath of cold air when you walk out of the house in the mmorning
The sound of kids laughing and playing in the snow

Skiing. but thats my favorite thing about spring too.

Warp daddy hit the nail on the head though. Its the cleanliness after a storm that, for me, is just mesmerizing to look at.

Aside from skiing, my feelings about winter are best summarized by the last Calvin and Hobbes strip:

Running out in the AM to start the car with just your Hot Chili's and shoes on.
Keeping the beer on the porch.
Having the dirtiest car in the parking lot on Monday AM.

I am sure I sound like a broken record on a few of these:

- Skiing
- Anticipation of upcoming snowstorms
- The warmth and look of a fireplace.
- Drinking good beer with friends around said fireplace.
- Comfort Food. Chili, Stews, and hearty dishes don't work for me during the summer...unless I'm drunk.
- How the cold air makes your nostrils freeze together.
- Staring outside while teaching a class and seeing it absolutely puke. I always give my students who ski a little gesture to turn around and check it out.

billski,
#1 = right on
#2 = needed a little modification...;-)
#3 = right on....
#4: I love getting up early..driving out on 4WD for coffee...then blowing snow..;-)..or really doing most anything constructive...*Maybe this is resulting from my finally insulating, flooring, and overall...fixing up the basement....LOL.
#5: #4 then getting to mountainous terrain(either @resort or off-up north in the woods...) on a thigh deep Snowday...with a little wind..*I said "a little" wind..blowing the snow through the trees(especially enjoyable outside the resort)

Skiing of course, but that aside....

-Snowshoeing around my land with the dog
-The amazing color contrast of freshly fallen white against a bright blue sky
-The serene calmness of walking outside into a light and fluffy falling snow

And of course...

-The sound of the plow scraping the driveway clear of snow before I get in my car and head off to a mountain to enjoy a morning of untracked. Condo fees are bearable and tolerable during the winter when I get the most bang for my buck!

Nothing compares with that deep, dark blue present floating above the horizon even on bright winter days that one only sees with the sun at low angle, like this:

Another of my favorite winter stunning visuals, alpen glow:
