Been really interested in trying to do some tricks and rails on my skis, I have Salomon 1080 thrusters. I hit alot of jumps and love the jumps in the park, but I want to take it up one more step and try some tricks. I wanna try a grab, but even if I get alot of air I feel like I won't have time to execute it and end up wiping out. Any tips? Now rails, I have NOT had a good relationship w/ rails, not on ski's but on roller blades I fell back on a rail and broke my arm in 2 places. I wanna try some but I'm afraid that the same is going to happen and end my season. Any tips or help would be really appreciated. Also any videos that show some small tricks would be great. Thanks alot

Spinning on skiis is actually easy. Just have to get used to the idea that you have to keep your feet together when landing, it feels natural to spread em to land (imo). Rails, make sure you jump high enough, just today I went to do a rail and i didn't get enough air so i left my skis behind and did body plant right across the rail. If you don't feel comfortable doing grabs in the air, make sure right when your off the jump to do. ANd then eventually do it later and later in the air untill it's perfect.

Hope this helps!!

when your doing rails. just start off on boxes. make shure when you land on the rails make shure you land flat and dont dig your edges on the metal.

Aren't most boxes plastic waxed? I don't notice the metal on the boxes.

When it comes to rails make sure you get the air but not too much and just stay flat and maintain balance. Jumping try straight airs until your comfortable then try spinning. It helps to twist your body the opposite way of your spin and then unravel in the air. Decide what you're doing before jumping too. Good Luck!

I would actually practice rails on bamboo poles . . . ski areas always have a ton of them laying around. Just lay one flat on the ground and you're good to go. If you scrape the paint off the bamboo, you're not doing it right. If you do it clean, you're ready to move up to actual rails.

As far as jumping, before you do any tricks, you should get comfortable in the air. The only way to do that is to spend as much time in the air as possible. Whenever you see a kicker (or a knoll, or a bump, or a mogul) pop off the top and try to stay compact in the air. Also, try to land in the same position that you took off.

most boxes have a top sheet of lexan or plexyglass. i was talking about metal rails. and get out their and do it already! the more you tink about the more nervous youre gonna get.

Pop on the lip, hands forward and straight air for a bunch of times until you feel like you're just riding over a knoll. Then start sucking your legs up into a tuck as you do your straight air jumps. From there you can get to your grabs, irons, mutes and start spinnning. Good luck!
