$60 is alot for antequated lifts..

but that wasn't your arguement. you said smuggs needs better lifts and snowmaking to compete. the fact is that there were exactly two ski resorts in Vermont that could make the claim that they turned a profit every year from 1990 - 2001. Okemo and Smuggs is it and thats a fact. I'm certain smuggs probably still has kept it up. So, Stowe can charge $84 a day, have shiny new lifts and 400k people show up, but if they are not consistently profitable, then you tell me who's the better competitor / has the better business model.

I thought Smuggs averaged slightly more natural snowfall than Stowe (perhaps too a little a difference to be statistically significant when you consider possible sources of error...but I thought Smuggs's #s were higher).

Their marketing claims higher but I've skied both in the same day and natural snow coverage is just about always higher at Stowe..

It doesn't matter if Stowe is profitable, they are owned by AIG..they can operate at a loss and still spend money on capital improvements..

I'm well aware of that, but your comments that smuggs needs to change to remain 'competitive' were asinine. You only view the situation through your own narcisistic eyes. You're a UVM grad, you should've taken their ski area management class. You might have learned a thing or twenty

I wan't in the ski area management program..I'm happy being a skiing consumer..I wouldn't want to work in the ski industry..it's too risky..my buddy from college is a manager out at Alpine Meadows..

How did you know I was a narcissist????? Wow do I love looking at myself in the mirror..lol...I just wish there were more high speed lifts..liftlines and slow lifts suck..

That sounds like an argument for quality not quantity ;) GSS should take note

It sure does, now doesn't it? :) I'm still a quantity guy, but in regards to MRG, I'd ski there every day if it was feasible.

I'll easily go with Smuggs "front 4" for numerous reasons. Regardless being as the two areas are right on top of each other and and share similar weather patterns, geographical features and equal access to amazing bc terrain, they are both great places to ski and ride.

Here's some pictures from the M1 chair @ Smuggs:(pictures taken in late march 2005, low snow year!)

Tasty pictures, WoodCore. Smuggs remains at the top of my "must ski list." If it wasn't for a certain blizzard making road conditions very tough, last year would have been the year. So maybe this year.

Wow! We all konw how difficult it is to accurately capture pitch in an 2D image, but man, that liftline looks pretty effin steep. Haven't seen much media on Smuggs. Thanks for that.

I'm booking some sort of overnight stay for late feb or march. Those pictures just gave me a new mission for this winter.

Looks rad, no doubt, but you gotta check MRG off the list first, my friend...

As I mentioned in my first post in this thread, Liftline at Smuggs is quite possibly the hariest inbounds marked trail in the east. If someone knows of something more imposing, I wanna hear about it.

That looks sick azz. If the other 3 at stowe are even close to that it's rougher than the front four at stowe for sure. I'll be there after a mid season dump without question, i want pow on there but with some rock still visible....best time of year for that anyone?

On another note, and I may be wrong here, I coulda sworn i hit something on Jay to the skiers right of the bonaventure that was right up there with that. I ducked a rope, so may not really qualify but it was right near deliverance i believe..coulda been off can-am though....some mando air time on it....especially near the top.
