The local schools here took away most of my kids winter break because most people don't know what to do with themselves in winter.

That's stupid, I'd rather have it the other way around, more vacation time in the winter instead of the summer...

In my limited time skiing Austria, it seemed that the population was always on vacation all the time. There was not mid-week lull.

I was in Minneapolis last winter, it was incredible. On a Sunday morning in the city, there were thousands of people out doing all sorts of really cool winter things.
Around here, they just run from warm building to another. Embrace winter, don't fear it!

When you get 6 weeks of vacation and a 35 hr work week it's easy to take a lot of time off.

It's not such a bad thaw, really since it's followed up by such a nice shot of cold weather. While I'd prefer natural snow, most places will be resurfaced and ready to go again in just a few days.

Just imagine if all this rain were snow! :D

Worst thing about living in the East: unproductive (or counterproductive) precipitation. I miss California, where if it rains, it almost always means snow in the mountains (since it rarely rains in the summer). Yeah, they're flooding right now (like we are out here), but they've also gotten almost ten feet of snow in parts of the Sierras.

Hello, I'm sorry I lost myself. I think I thought you were someone else. Should we talk about the weather? Should we talk about the government?

If I hear one more summer loving schmuck say “at least it’s not snow” about this miserable weather I’m going to do something… It’s winter, hell it’s January, precipitation is suppose to be in the form of snow. I know we have thaws and some rain, but not 58 degrees and 2 to 4 inches of RAIN. Our season is short enough, if these hibernating whimps don’t like winter they should move or just stay in their house/cave cuddled up with their remote watching reruns of Leave It to Beaver. I’m not fan of summer, but I know the cycle, and I wait, not to patiently, but I wait for the return of winter. No season demands your attention more then winter and none has more potential for beauty and enjoyment. Let winter be winter.
