Getting Desperate

I'm starting to think my "Bronze Pass" is getting more and more like the US Dollar; worth less and less every day! If this goes on any longer, I will have to bail on the NE and head back to UT. Even though Salt Lake is getting nothing but "snow showers" the resorts, which are at altitude (obviously missing here in the East) are getting blanketed....sighhhhhhhhhh...!

My sentiments exactly. Until today I've been planning a family trip to VT or NH, but I'm starting to think plane tickets west are the way to go.

Don't lose faith! There's a lot of winter left. I also heard on the news this morning that Bradley Airport actually had a slightly colder and snowy December than normal...

(Sigh), It has not been much of a 'winter' thus far.

At least the GF and I are taking our vacation at Sunday River, where the skiing should be decent even if this weather continues.

I hear you. It's depressing to go over the morning trail report here at the inn. Not only is it costing us plenty of money during what should be our bread and butter season, but there's a general malaise among the guests when they arrive. Got to hand it to the hard-core skiers, though. They're out there no matter the conditions.

It seems that every warm stretch is warmer and rainier than predicted and every snow event gets continually downgraded as it approaches and then turns into nothing.

Of course we all know that we're just one nor'easter away from some great skiing, so let's keep our fingers crossed and watch the weather.

Great to have you here, KingM. I look forward to hearing of the news from your part of the world.

As for the skiing, check out my thread on the Miscellaneous chat room regarding the "lack of snowmobile season." At least we have snowmaking to sustain us. http://alpinezone.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2757&highlight=

Thanks, trailboss. I'm in awe at some of the skiers in this forum, both their superior skills and how much skiing they get in each year. I'm hoping to offer my own modest contribution by giving a skier's-view heads-up on the conditions here in my little corner of Vermont.

As for the depressing lack of snow, we might just be coming around later this week. Starting tonight as temps drop and we get some snow showers, the next several days look favorable, with some genuine snow predicted for Thursday and Friday.

I usually aim for the mid-Feb to mid-March time frame to come up to MRG; seems to be the best bet for good snow cover whatever the year. In fact King, I'm about to sign up for a PSIA re-up clinic, an advanced steeps/trees clinic at MRG on 3/1-2.

I'll probably take the kids out of school for the week 2/28-3/4 and come up on Sunday, 2/27 and ski the 5 weekdays, heading home on the night of 3/4. So that's a 5 night stay, my wife and 3 kids (10, 8, and 2.5) included.

Assuming you guys don't mind kids (some places don't allow them), maybe you could PM me some info about your place.

Winter is only 2 weeks old

Winter is only 2 weeks old. We were not blessed with the snow during fall that we were last year, but last year dried up during the end of the season. It is too early to say that the season is a wash. Snow is on the way. Have faith.

Sure, I'll send you a message. I'd put my details out in public space, but I don't want to use the forum to pitch my business, if you know what I mean, just to talk about skiing.

By the way, we've at least got white on the ground after a few snow showers overnight. I'm going to brave the Bush this afternoon if I can get my work done around here and will report on conditions. They're still talking some decent snow on Thursday, so I'm growing more hopeful.

Exactly why the Private Message feature of this forum is so useful! I'm sure Greg appreciates your discretion.

I'll know later this week if that late Feb/early March trip is a definite go; it's looking good right now.

I do, but I'm not 100% against shilling if it's done in the context of a given thread (e.g. "where's a good place to stay near MRG") and if posted by a contributory member of the community, which it looks like KingM is starting to become. Blatant, drive-by, unrequested spam is not welcome though.
