As I understand it, a few years ago, Glen Plake did a "Down Home Tour" In the northeast. Rumor has it he skiied a lot of the smaller mountains and did a lot of schmoosing with the locals. He has the reputation of being (or having been) a wild man as well as an Icon of the sport. I was just wondering if anybody met him during this tour and if so do you thing his actions are a positive thing for the sport.

RSN-16 in North Conway shows the footage from his Down Home Tour all the time. I think it's a great way to get the smaller hills some exposure.

From what I understand, he pops up at Tuck's every season, at least over the last few years. I've seen his picture in the Mountain Ear and on RSN from his Tuck's trips.

Mr. Mohawk has done more for the sport than most...turned a whole generation onto the sport with his craziness and style.

Scot Schmidt (the father of freeskiing to many) and Glen Plake are legends in my book.

I've always liked him alot. He figured out a way to make money doing the thing he loves. He never competed on a major stage in any skiing event, to my knowledge, he just marketed himself as a free sprited wild man on skis and it worked for him. More power to him.

And it worked because it wasn't just marketing. He was just being himself.

I like the guy. SnoWhat is one of the best ski porn films I've seen, and damn I wish I could find someone that still sells it.

I haven't been involved in the sport long enough to comment on his impact and whether it was good/bad yadda yadda.

I just the he's an amazing skier with a great sense of humor and damn would it be fun to throw back a few with him.

Glen Plake is a creature like no other...watch "The Blizzard of Ahh's" and you'll see what I mean.

Plake, Schmidt, Hattrup, Andrews, Stump and especially Warren Miller are my heros!

They do it for real! I believe Glen hasn't hurt anybody but himself and what's not to like about the guy... there aren't many skiers around that can flow through rock & cliff bands as smooth as he can...and that is fun to watch over and over and over...

Might start a bidding war with me on that one, snowhat is one of my favorites. How about the time he jumps off the cliff without skis on and post(body)holes up to his waist.

Its classic!

I saw him last year at tucks during the Inferno race, pretty cool.

Gotta love Plake....

....a guy who seems beyond sincere in his love of the sport. He's like my 5 year old who just thrills at the act of sliding on snow. Never grew up, in the best sense of the word.

And when called upon to "step up" in Stumpy's films....well, Plake definitely stepped up. Some sick footage came out of Plake's helmet cam....

I read somewhere) http://www.emgathletes.com/Athleteresumes/glen_plake.htm ) that he was a 2-Time World Champion Hot Dog Skier ( pre freestyle I guess).

lol, that is one of the best parts of the movie. The dude starts throwing snow on him to make it look like he's turning in powder. It's great!

I love the destructibe birds. "Oiy, I'm Glen Plake! You can't hurt me! I'm Glen Plake!"

Classic!

Man I can't wait to watch that film.

I'll send you a DVD copy if you want one :)

Plake rocks... Blizzard of Ahhhs audition scene was amazing.. Everyone in the audition picks their way down a tough cliffband... He backs up and just hucks the mo-fo..

He and Scott Schmidt made me the skier I was today... ;)

Reminds me of Bodi Miller in that sense...

I saw some video of him at Crotched (I hope I didn't dream this). I'm the kind of stodgy old fart who'd normally be put off by someone like Glen Plake, but I can't find anything to be put off by. Just seems to love skiing and has an enthusiasm that is very contagious. Seems he'd be a great guy to hook up with for an apres ski beer.

I have one of the first movies he was in, I'm at work so I forget the name of it, he was about 20 at the time. Liked to spit at the camera lens every time he passed it close. They said he was the weirdest guy they had met yet. One of the true legends in my book.
