I'm a bit surprised there's so much discussion and question now about this...the law has been around since the 80s and I've seen many "regular" products over the years that have the warning on them.

I'm also a bit unsure whether some of the comments about these chemicals only causing problems in California are sarcastic or not. These chemicals can potentially be dangerous anywhere (in large enough amounts), but is is just that CA is the only state that has mandated that customers be warned if a product contains something on the list. To avoid lawsuits, many companies err on the side of caution and label things they aren't sure of. Sometimes it is easier to just put the label on than to test and figure out whether the amount of whatever chemical is under the safe limit or not.

Definitely sarcastic haha. I thought the only reason companies outside of CA put those labels on was when they were large corporations and just didn't want to make 2 versions of things like cups, goggles, etc, one with a label, one without. I've seen those labels in a KFC before, which I thought was hilarious.

You're very right about the exposure. It is not the toxicity that creates the risk, its the exposure and dose. The warning was to give people the knowledge to make informed decisions about the risks they want to take on. Having the ability to utilize that knowledge... that's another matter entirely.

Hah...even Disneyland supposedly has a vague warning sign that the resort contains chemicals subject to the Prop 65 warning.

And the problem with these labels is that they are so vague and if you really want to understand the true risk you would need to contact the manufacturer of the product and ask what specifically is prompting the warning and then research that chemical.

Clearly more dangerous than alligators in Florida, no signs there.

Mind boggling!

I envision CA residents wearing HAZMAT suits within the next 10 years.

HAHA. Why is that? Prop 65 was passed in like 1986.

Besides! The hazmat suit material is probably a designated carcinogen!

Where in Florida have you been?

There're most definitely alligator warning near alligator habitats.

Not at the Disney where that toddler from Indiana was taken and killed by an alligator this past summer. Not a warning sign to be found regarding being on the watch for gators near the lagoon he was standing on the shore of. Not until after the fact that is. It was also learned that the local Disney police were actually feeding those gators.

But watch out for any plastic you may eat. Ridiculous!!

Edit: I'm not a fan of Florida...been there a few times, don't like the climate or geography.
