I'm seeing all kinds of golf promotions from the ski resorts now. I would venture to say that at least in AZ, and perhaps a large portion of the skier/boarder community, golf and skiing/boarding have mutually exclusive participation. Am I wrong? I never hear anyone here talk about going golfing, at least not by choice. What do you think?

There are a fair number of golfers here on AZ. Warp Daddy and Dr. Jeff come to mind, Rivercoil picked up the sport last year. I have in the past, but it's one of those things where if I'm not participating 2-3 days per week, I don't bother. Sold my clubs last summer as I hadn't used them but a few times in the past four years and didn't see that changing.

I'm hoping by the time I pick up the game again in retirement, that I will have forgotten all my bad habits and can actual develop a swing that looks smoother than Charles Barkely's.

Total symbiotic relationship for me! Golfing gets me between ski seasons and skiing gets me between golfing seasons. Between the 2, I've got an outdoor passion to pursue 52 weeks a year!

I don't golf. I used to in the summers when I was younger, but I just lost interest in it. I do have the occational fantasy of ripping the quad around 18 holes on a pristine summer morning....

I'd rather be in the mountains hiking in the summer. golfing is far too flat for me ;)

not all courses, I'm sure there is plenty of elevation change at Steaux's new course.

Even though I don't play anymore, I do defend the sport. I have certain friends who talk about how they think the sport is stupid. My response? Do you like to take walks in beautiful areas? Their response: Yes My response, then I see no reason for you to think golfing is stupid, all it is is taking a walk in a beautiful location and having a little fun hitting a ball. Not too different than skipping rocks when you get down to the basics of being outdoors.

that said, I don't play

At Stowe, I suspect you have to run to your ball to get your next shot before it rolls away

It really depends what you want to get out of the sport. I have nothing at all against golf, I just find it way too dull, if you enjoy it, bully for you! I like to explore, I like wilderness, I like remote places devoid of human disruption. I am glad that Baxter State Park, Mt. Adams, etc. have no club house, golf carts or caddies.

I golf most opften when others are paying (i.e. corporate outings and tournaments). I did golf more in High School, but then this thing called mountain biking came along and had a much better rush! Any way I usually play a few times a year, mainly for work outings or functions.

I'm a golfer but I'm not that into it. I caught the golfing bug as a teenager and the local municipal golf course had $7.50 greens fees for students so I would play a couple days a week and went from being a hacker to an average golfer occasionally breaking 100. Then my Dad got into golf so I played with him alot..my Dad gave up skiing due to a bad hip so golf is now the only sport we do together..I've only played once so far this summer and usually play 3-4 times a month almost always with my Dad which is a good thing since greens fees range from $35-$120 at most courses around here and he pays for me..if it wasn't for playing with my Dad..I would probably only play 2-3 times a year..I enjoy golf but I don't get the adrenaline rush I get when I ski...plus the slow pace is a drag as I can play a round alone in under 2 hours but often I am in these slow foursomes of old men which take almost 5 hours..I really dislike being paired up with random golfers..some of them have poor etiquette and talk in your backswing and chainsmoke...

I would rather watch golf on TV than skiing,,

It's one of those things to me that I somewhat enjoy, but I enjoy other pursuits more (biking) to the point that it isn't worth the investment of time and money to me.

I could see golf having a draw to those that enjoy gentle cruisers. It's more a relaxing (sometimes) way to get outside and do something than a way to generate excitement.

+1. Until I started skiing again last year I always lamented the end of golf season and couldn't wait for it to start argain. Now that I ski-- I am never too depressed- although I did not want ski season to end this year and thus have not missed golf at all until recently. Didn't play my first round until May 4 this year- the latest I can remember. Usually started end of March or early Apri, whenever the snow had melted enough to distinguish the golf ball.
