Funny... But why come to Hunter.. It's so crowded, flat, unfreindly and nasty... With all that cool new stuff wouldn't people want to go to Bellayre?

Amazing. I thought the only thing Elliot knew about snow was that it occasionally showed up on his limo. There may be hope for the future state of New York skiing after all.

Actually I think he is - or was - a skier. I remember from a news profile during the campaign for governor that he spent weekends in a ski share in VT during law school, met his wife there.

But my real question is will he put his (i.e. the taxpayers') money where his mouth is? What kind of money will the state put into the Highmount expansion, and when? Any ideas what to expect in the way of lifts, snowmaking, and lodges there?

Anyone skied the Highmount trails, can you comment on the terrain there? My impression looking up from the road is they'll add some variety and challenge to Belleayre, not just more acreage.

The mentality i associated with the hunter ski area in the past is really just a weekend skier mentality and i apologize if i have offended any regulars.I have experienced this type of behavior at bellearye, jiminey, catamount, windham, killington, stratton, okemo, ect, ect.I skied alot Mon - Fri last yr and really should have hooked up with you guys over at hunter and if you do it again i will definitely be there.

Anything that would make Belleayre more interesting is a winner in my opinion. I have a place right up the mountain from it but usualy drive the 30 minutes to Hunter. It would be great to only have to make the 2 minute drive to Bell. Bell does have better bumps than Hunter, but the top gets very icy. I see this as a good thing as long as it doesn't overwhelm the area. And the jobs it will create is a very needed plus.

Even if it were true I would pay the extra money to avoid skiing Mountain Creek more than once per season.

That sounds right to me, and I'd add that I think it'll be a winner for Hunter and Windam. The development at Belleayre can't help but positively rub off on the other areas. The development and expansion should attract people who otherwise would have kept on driving to Vermont, and, when they've had their fill of Belleayre, they'll check out what the other local resorts have to offer.

Win win (for the community).

Always liked belleayre. I basically grew up skiing belleayre and Highmount. I'm glad to see Highmount's coming back from NELSAP.

A Gore, Whiteface and Belleayre pass would be awesome!

So what's Highmount like?

Agreed re combined pass -- it'll never happen, but if it did, I'd never ski VT again.

Keep it real brah, it's compatition for every ski area in the Catskills. If they do all they say they'll go right to the top of the list for skier visits.

I don't know, if Hunter were to have it's expansion done by that time, they'll still be on pretty equal ground, and Belleayre still is not very well-known to most people, it'll take time for them to catch up.

And best of all....................my property value will go up.

No doubt. Also the village, golf course, more terrain to ski, other amenities will spur other development in the area.

Look what happened at Jiminy Peak. The Vacation Village in the Berkshires sprung up right across the street from them. It’s a big place.

ERJ mentioned he hoped the vibe of Belleayre wouldn’t change because of this project. For better or worse the vibe is going to be turned on its ear if it all gets done.

Jiminy Peak use to be a nice little locals place. It’s all different now.

I skied Highmount in its best years. It has steep shots, trees, fall line skiing and faces NW. It adds a great variety that Belleayre doesn't have. Nothing will top Hunter West, but with the states muscle behind it, ie snowmaking, it will be a great addition to the area.

Anyone know if the plans to add a chair into to Pinehill are included in this?
