-Free pass had to be redeemed at Guest Services, which went smoothly other than a 15 minute wait (on a weekday - last Friday)

-Old grumpy person stating there was a "bag policy" at tables, even though skiers in question were still getting ready

-Brutally high lift ticket prices

-Cutting off in lift lines without remorse or acknowledgement

-Cutting off on trails without remorse or acknowledgement

-Blocked off three trails completely for race training programs (one or two is bareable, but three on limitted terrain is ridiculous)

-Decided to keep one of the main chairs inoperable so that everyone on most of the mountain had to be filtered to the main base area

-Gondola being overloaded, with an occasional person saying they are bored of the area - most telling everyone they are heading West (shut up and go!)

-Cell phone stock trading on gondi after telling his young kid to find his parent (good parental supervision)

-Snooty attitude from a select few (or many) of the regulars

-Lift rats having a tough time scanning a season pass, failing to write # down and guest services not wanting to add a code sticker right at that point (even though they weren't that busy at that point)

-Most runs lead to catwalk or other flat area that cannot be avoided

-Too much lift capacity on a normal day (only a complaint if I had to ski there on a weekend or holiday or even worse - a holiday weekend.

I'm sure most of the knowledgeable skiers/boarders on this site will figure out this certain area quickly. No prize, but area needs to be called out and many probably will.

Skiing was OK overall, dust on crust but the overall experience was pretty obnoxious, as were many of the patrons.

Actually, I think the biggest problem there is the type of person it attracts. The mountain ops aren't usually that bad. Some strange policies, but nothing that gets in the way of a good time. And I actually dig the terrain, esp. the woods.

I think it is the worst place to go by oneself. DO NOT RIDE THE GONDI BY YOURSELF. YOU WILL BE OUTNUMBERED. If you do go, bring a loud obnoxious friend. One who has no internal censor and will say exactly what you are thinking.

I have no problem telling yuppie clowns where to go and will absolutely throw down. Get kicked out? No big deal, there are lots of other places to go. Sometimes you just have to knock these fools down a peg or two.

Actually had three friends in the gondi with me and had to deal with cell phone trader ass. But one friend of mine made it amusing by slamming his skis and poles on the floor as he was trying to talk...

The few other times I've been there were better. Though some of those problems are inherently part of their area. It just seemed this particular day was the worst combination of conditions (other than skiing which was OK) I've ever dealt with in one day.

If I didn't know better, I would have thought you were talking about New York City!

Funny part about it, most people who like to go there don't find any of your gripes to be an issue for them! :-(

p.s., Did you know that most employees there are not even from the area/state (And I don't just mean the lifties from S. Africa)????

I can't say that obnoxious people are unique Stratton. I have seen MANY MANY interesting folks at another larger resort in VT. I do however agree that Stratton attracts a certain client. I have never had too many issues there. GREAT place to people watch! I can't afford to ski there, nor would I, w/o a free pass or hefty discount.

Id rather listen to some guy in the Gondi trading stocks than the guys in the liftline at Mt Snow dropping F bombs all day in front of kids, of course this has just been from my experiences.

Tips for Stratton:
Stay off the Gondola, worst ski lift experience there is. Take the chairs.......six packs everywhere...........
Stay away til April. It's a great hill in early April or last w/e in March. For some reason they maintain their base and the regulars are golfing. I've had some great spring sking experiences there. Makes a relatively "easier to ski" mountain fun also when you have some crud and mashed potatoes.......................
