Just wondering, why there is an ongoing perception by the general population that if you go helicopter skiing, you have to jump out of the helicopter. Is it based solely on perception from extreme skiing flicks from the 80's and 90's?

Top myths:
1) Guests jump out of a hovering helicopter with their skis on and race off down near-vertical ski runs as fast as lightning.

I saw a post on facebook this morning about the ski expo and while thinking about it, it's true, everyone I talk to about it, the first they ask is if I had to jump from the helicopter

Every single time, without exception, that I've told people I went heli-skiing they have responded with "Oh My God! you jumped out of a helicopter?!?!?".

I think the ongoing misconception is partly perpetuated by the fact that I always answer "Yup!". Why ruin their fun...

May I assume that jumping out of the helicopter is, in fact, frowned upon by the tour operators?

And the most interesting man in the world, but when he does. He jumps out of the helicopter.

I don't think for most tour operators there is an easy way to do. You have six or seven people in a helicopter and all the skis are in a bin above the landing gear skids. You'd have to basically exit the helicopter, retrieve your skis, clip in, and then jump, while avoiding everyone else piled in.

Have you you tried son blades?

Sounds like a plan. Invest in a pair of snow blades, sign up for a group helicopter tour, jump out before touching down and get first tracks every time! What could go possibly go wrong?
