Hello all.
I have been reading the alpinezone forums for a long time, but never registered/posted. Let me introduce myself. I live in southern RI, right near the beach. I'm a web marketing manager and consultant. Age 28.I like skiing, though I took a time-out from 2003-2005 (boo) and skied a total of zero days between march 03 and december 05.

My first time? February 1990 at Temple Mtn in Peterborough NH. The rope tow that ran right alongside the road. I was 11.

First skis - those green/blue Head XR's or whatever they were called with tyrolia bindings and sweet raichle rear entry boots. pat patriot hat, CB jacket. Stylin!

I progressed fairly quickly (still miss my circa 92 Rossignol DV6 and 4S or were they 7S -- can't remember) and got to ski all over new england during jr high and high school. I have a great memory of opening day at Jiminy Peak in 1992. Veterans day - ski for only $11. I conned my dad into taking the day out of work and driving us and two of my friends there. We drove out in pouring rain and it was NOT cold. I remember stopping somewhere on the mass pike and calling to make sure there was in fact snow. We did the trash bag thing and skied on one trail all day in 45 degree downpours all day. Actually, we tried to make veterans day skiing a tradition. Mt Snow usually had top-bottom run with the quad open. Canyon or standard or whatever that run was...

I even skied at Sunrise hill in n. attleboro.

I joined Nat'l Ski Patrol in spring 1993. I took the medical courses in the base lodge at Klein Innsbruck (I grew up only a couple of towns from there), and passed the medical portion of the exam in June 1993 at Wa-wa. I remember wa-wa unveiled their expansion plan that same day.

I was a jr patroller at K.I. in 93-94 (Sunday nights!) and vividly remember Stanley (that was his name, right? the owner?) screaming at me because I did not pick up a pair of goggles someone left on the ground. I patrolled only a few times the following season bc I wanted to focus on high school hockey. By the time 95-96 came around, I was too busy going to punk rock shows ;) to care about patrolling. I remember you had to wear these really horrible plastic ski patrol windbreakers over your jacket because as jr patrollers/candidates we were not yet privy to the standard issue jackets.

I went to UMaine Farmington for a few years and skied a ton there, almost exclusively at the Loaf. I dropped out of the ski industries program about a week into it. As much as I liked skiing, I came to the conclusion that I did not want my life to revolve around it. Opening day 97 was October 21. I have pics at home of spillway open that day...I will dig them up, scan, and post. The years I was at UMF I tried to ski 4-5x a week...and usually did. Remember in 97 when they re opened the lifts in may because there was still so much snow? I had those yellow rossi course kx and orange tecnica explosion 8 boots. mtn viper x, then later the k2 4s and merlin 6 skis...which I still had till last year haha.

Anyways, after college I did not have the funds or time for skiing and kind of got out of it. But the bug bit me again and I decided to get back into it. Yawgoo is 10 minutes from my house and I went there a few times, picked up some demo Volkl superstar 5s and did about 10 days last year up north. Between work, my side job, and playing in a punk rock band, I can't justify skiing much more than that, but I hope to get in 10-15 days this year.

anyways..just saying hello. I always start to get fired up for winter around now, and start checking RSN cams and mt washington cams obsessively for signs of winter...

PS - I love the nelsap site and found/explored pine top a year before it was added to the site.

PPS - In high school, after the blizzard of march 93, a friend and I made a rope tow with his honda fourtrax atv and some sailboat rope from the garage. We had a 50-75 vertical ft or so run with a tabletop on this big hill on the powerlines (high tension power company lines). No joke.

New to the board as well, I have been viewing for a long time but finally decided to register. Also from RI. Ski mostly up at Sunday River. Grew up skiing in NJ, Vernon Valley and Hidden Valley. I need to take my kids back to Hidden for some night skiing, it should bring back special memories.
