That photo is kind of freaky... and now I know why...the kid looks like CHUCKY! "Nightmare at Wildcat" I guess?

Remember the Maine!

I took a "History of Modern Civilization" COurse in college, which started at 1783 (the course, not my college career). The professor had no idea why. Couldn't have been the whole Maerican and French Revolutions, the start of rule by law and true democracy, or anything, could it? I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the proff after that.

Treaty of Paris? England makes peace with France, Spain AND the U.S? Some professor .... hope you got an A at least.

Of course I got an A. Without buying any of the books, even. Gotta love history taught by those who don't know it.

Oh you are a junior now. U.S. 2 huh? Where does that start from? Reconstruction? Guilded Age? Imperialism? Progressive era?

last year finished with reconstruction, this year we start with WWI

Good lord, nothing about the 40+ years in betwen? Span-Am war? Mexican Revolution? Panama Canal?

WWI is good to start with though. Intersting stuff to keep your attention.

I just finished a biography of Teddy Roosevelt (written by Edmund Morris - the guy that did the controversial Reagan bio a few years ago) and it was excellent. He was a fascinating person - truly larger than life. And the era just before and during his Presidency was an exciting time as the US came of age as a world power.

I was a business major but always really enjoyed history....
