i believe it is a reference to being "wimpy" as in the french surrender very quickly etc etc. that would be my guess anyway.

ahh, i see. thanks.

note to MD - in the future i would suggest not using the french, when in reference to skiing, as wimps/lame/gapers etc . as most know, they have bred some of the sickest most badass skiers on the planet...ever!

every ski town in which ive lived the best skiers on the hill were over 30.

This is true.

But the ballsiest skiers are usually under 30.

You need two things for the park, you gotta have brains and you gotta have balls.
My problem is I have too much of one and not enough of the other.

That's only if you have the balls to hit them fast enough to make it to the designed landing, of which I don't.

The problem is that most parks does not provide enough kickers in varying size to
progress in small increment, especially toward the smaller end. Also, I find the smaller
kickers to have less quality landing that you can have harder landing on smaller one
than a litlte bigger one.

At Wawa this season, they divided their kickers into two sections with separate lips
offset by 3~4 feet but sharing the same landing. That doubled the number of kickers
and made the increment of the size differences much smaller, made me able to step up
to the size which was too intimidating before.

Loon may be the place to look at for the small or starting elements. They have the Burton progression park. Get kids or beginners a start on low boxes, low rails and small jumps and its own lift. Waterville has a starter park as well. Stomach doc would have more info on Waterville's set up.

Good point. I was at Bromley 2 seasons ago, they had green, blue, and black sections all next to one another in their park. I thought that was a good idea.

That they do. I'm just a history geek and see the french millitary as week.

When I was looking around for a freestyle clinic, this one looked the most comprehensive:

My fear is that average age of the attendents would be quarter of mine

Not trying to put you down, but I didn,t think WaWa had many impressive jumps. There was one that was ok, but the others not so good. They lacked a good lip.

This year Sunapee stepped it up and put in some sweet jumps. That park could be so good there. 2 seperate runs (possibly 3...) it's own lift and side of the mountain to keep "non park" skiiers and riders away, and the perfect pitch in the trail for a park. It also appears Okemo stepped the park up and Sunapee seems to making a lot of money... They got a lot of new features this perivious year.

More important than bumps...less important than trees I like to boost a big air now and than maybe throw a grab in there. Still not so sure about rails though?

Let me correct some misinformation. The Bush did have a pipe last year. Superparx built a bunch of new terrain features last year which we featured in the Park at Mount Ellen with its own dedicated lift. This year there will also be a progression park on Which Way in addition to the main park on Reimergasse and features at Lincoln Peak as well. This Friday the 39 foot roller coaster feature will debut at the Queen's City Rail Jam in Burlington.

Not important at all to me, so I don't go anywhere based on the terrain park. The only time I'm in a terrain park is if I'm with other people and following them in. But the people I ski with also would not choose a ski area based on a terrain park.

This is a cool thread:
I'll start on the topic, and that is parks really don't matter to me at all. BUT, I do go in them and REALLY enjoy them simply because they are there and it amazes me. I remeber being kids, building jumps and getting in trouble. the best thing now is that we don't have to build them Please, please don't get me wrong. I DO NOT GO BIG, but do hit the kickers, table tops and get a hoot out of them. Tried a couple rails---not for me:oops:
Anyway, I remeber being at WF and watching "kids" who were going HUGE and remebering how amazed I was. I like watching people do what they are good at. my buddy and I just got the hell out of their way.

Now off topic: We have a group of 9 guys that meet up every sunday a.m. to ski together. The youngest is 41 the oldest is 66. If there's enough snow for the trees that's were you'll find us. If not, it's off to the steepest terrain we can find. We're no the best skiers on the hill \, but we can hold our own w/ most. I think the reason for that is becasue of the new skis. These things are amazing, and if you've been around you know what I mean. I know for me I wouldn't being skiing today like I do if it wasn't for them. Darn near like cheating. Along those lines, I wonder how many "below 30" would be skiing today like they do with out them. Plain and simple they are MUCH easier to ski.

Parks are cool...
I'm not really into them but i like the fact that others enjoy them... they normally don't put them on terrain i really care about so... and people are going to jib and bonk.. (that doesnt sound good anymore) so better they do it in a park ...

Sunapee is stepping it up again this year with a new park on east side and new jibs throughout the parks still not sure if they will expand onto Elliot slope (needs snowmaking lines)

parks are very important to me, I ride mostly at Sunapee and on crowded days its the only place to get away aside from the long lines when the ski teams are racing.

Elliot's got snowmaking last year and rumor has it within the next 5 years when the park becomes to crammed they may start to spread some features out their.

Do you know any specific features they will be adding?
