Probably mid April. All depends on the closing date for the mountain we ski at.

Going until it is over. At Day 47 now. I guess the plan is to ski until Sugarbush is closed and then maybe a few days at Killington and some skinning at Stowe or maybe Mt. Washington. Looking like a 60 day season this year quite possibly.

Right where I want to be
I have a lot of "parent responsibilities" over the next few months. I am trying to ski next weekend. Maybe Crotched or wildcat. Saturday weather wise ain't lookin' good. Wife is making plans for Easter but I may have to put the Kibosh to that. I hope to get a day or 2 more in at Wildcat before they close in May. Then a day or 2 at K. Last day should be last day K is open

I want to use all my max pass days at K this year. Also just saw that Ikon gives unlimited days at Mammoth until closing. Time to visit that friend in SF. [emoji3]

I usually wrap it up mid April. If k is still open for Memorial Day weekend, sometimes I’ll go up for a day.

I thought I was done, but might be able to squeeze one more day in next friday 4/6 if the catskills are open. Then the schedule really makes it impossible.

I was at Wildcat today and they say they are trying for May this year. how far into May? Not sure.

They say trying for May pretty much every year, don't they? Would be (pleasantly) shocked if it was more than the first weekend.

I've scheduled a trip for the closing weekend of my home mountain in mid-April - hopefully the snow will last that long. The next two weekends are taken for family obligations, otherwise I'd go sooner if I could.

Yes, things filled in https://www.outdoors.org/outdoor-activities/backcountry-weather although Pinkham says 11" . Walking out sucks.

So after a tease like that you need to follow up with the rest of the story .

I hiked a short way up the Tuckerman Ravine trail yesterday after skiing. There's a lot of snow for now, but not enough that skiing the Sherburne all the way out will last through April without additional snow. Hopefully a lot more will come.

So..our little trip to Tux that went wrong. Andy Z, may he RIP, and I hiked up there several years ago. Uneventful hike and pretty easy. When you see the head wall it is an incredible sight. I hiked up about half way and saw some guys sitting on some rocks. Figured it would be a good place, I was wrong. As i got near them one legs punches through the snow and I'm staring down about 30 feet to a friggin small river. Holy crap. 2 week later that river would claim someones life as they did the same thing except fell in and was never seen again. OY.
Hike up some more and put on my skis, didn't make it all the way up..that thing is STEEP. The minute I start skiing down the snow starts running. A mini avalanche. You can't ski that stuff. Make it down and try again. This time I try to make my way over to the left where the snow was better. I'm several hundred feet up and hit ice. Now I'm stuck on an ice face holding on with my fingers and boot toe, barely. Well this sux, really. I make it over to the chute and meet up with Andy. Lets go up and over. um..OK. That was scary as hell. Rocks at the top and steep as hell. Says he know a good chute to get down.
Now were walking around the top, feet punching through the snow. I have no idea where we are going. This goes on ..for a long time. Its starting to get dark..I'm starting to worry. After a while longer we get to an entrance to a chute. This is it? OK. I ski down, he ..makes it down and...I'm staring at shrubbery, and a stream. I don't see a trail..getting darker. Getting worried. Now what. I say I'll push out for a few hundred yard and see if I can find the trail..I find it 100 feet later. Thank god. And off we go..for hours. Were 3 miles out and I can just see the light on the welcome center. No water, no food, carrying 40 pounds of shit on our backs. We find a stream, good some water to drink..he drops the radio in the water..great. Well it didn't do much any way. My girlfriend and his wife must be..oh..wondering where we are by now..I guess. I finally say I'm going to push on fast , get to the center and call them.
I get to the center and fall on my face, in front of the guy mopping the floor. I mumble ..he's still out there..well give him some time and if he doesn't show up we'll go and get him. 20 minutes later he makes it in . Our little adventure is over..its 9PM..we've been out there for 12 hours.
Back at the hotel, the girls don't know what went on, and we'll keep it that way. a few tons of fast food later and I'm good to pass out.
Next morning find the best place to eat. 12 egg omelettes and pancakes the size of tires..best pancake ever.
Rules broken..many.But i'll never forget it. I just miss Andy..he was one of a kind.

How far up did you hike, and what condition was the Sherburne in at the bottom?
