Like many of you I would have to vote for both. If Hunter management was going to choose one or the other this yea I would bet my money on 44 to test the new wind breaks that they installed. If enough natural falls we will not need to have this debate as the whole mountain will be open and wonderful.

44.... Hands down... Wild and wooly... Steep and crazy.... As wide a Superstar as steep as OL....

see, I guess outside of wide open bowls out west, I find wide trails unappealing. If I could redraw the map at Killington, there would be four or five trails in place of Super Star/Ovation and Devils Fiddle/Outer Limits. Two for Double Dipper as well.

Outside of a race trail like Hayride at Stowe, I rarely see widening as an improvement.

One or two is nice. A mountain of them, not so much. Hunter has one wide run on the main face, and one wide run on the west side.

Does anybody remember the late march/early april storm in the late 90's that dumped 36" of wet heavy concrete on Hunter overnight? I think it was april fools day 98 or 99 but i'm not sure. They opened up Westway that day and it was straight grass the day before. Purna had wind drifts so big with a packed takeoff so they rode like giant tabletops. The bumps on claire's were completely filled in so that you could ride it like a powderfield (for the first run anyway). I spent 15 minutes digging myself out of a hole on Ike. I even saw lines off the 25 footers under the summit quad! Back to the point, purna was better that day and i've never seen westway open any other time during the few seasons i was at hunter.

I honestly can't think of a trail I've skied anywhere in the east that I've thought to myself, wow this is great, look how wide this trail is. Unless I'm arcing HUGE GS turns, I have not need for a trail being wider than 75 feet or so. I prefer 15-30ish, but given the skier traffic in the east, that's unrealistic to expect.

I agree. I've skied Annapurna once a while back; never skied 44. So I'm not qualified to vote. But based on what 44 looks like, I'd expect I'd go with Annapurna

Agree... the only thing that was appealing to me was that it was bony :D
Purna also has some good pitch and is much narrower and "in the trees" sorta. I dig that more... but have yet to ski 44 in equal conditions.

South Side of Chicago BOOM!
ASS-A-BURNER!
first then trail 44

Trail 44 does not hold snow!
If they plant trees then maybe it would be worth while, The way the wind whips up the Mtn it just blows the snow into the woods, if you have skied 44 then you know what I am talking about.
DMC you got that pic of the Hockey rink?
But then why all the negative vibes about all the snowmaking?
Fcuk what you guys don't like Natural Snow?
Pray for it Biitches!

 I didn't see this until now, guess I was too busy skiing in the back seat that day..

Unlike others on this board I don't recall ever claiming to be god's gift to skiing. As a matter of fact I routinely acknowledge that I spend way too much time in the back seat, especially in unfamiliar terrain/conditions. So thanks for the pep talk captain obvious!

In the shadow of the moon.
Like others have already said, the wind blows stright up 44, they don't even bother blowing on it anymore, takes a huge dump to get it open. Hope the new fences help.

But is sucks, so if you see it open, stay off it, I heard Hellgate is nice.

Hey man! That's great advice. Thanks for that. I'll try it next time and let you know how I make out.
