Completly Wrong?

2- the farmers almanac said below average precip average temps for new england. Whoever said its calling for above average snow and below average temperatures is completely wrong.

Here are some quotes from thier site.

"Shivery is not dead” reveals the 2007 Farmers’ Almanac, alluding to its winter weather forecast. “While global warming has taken up much of our attention (as well as news coverage), our winter predictions are pointing towards widespread cold from coast to coast, especially for the western sections of the country,” shares Peter Geiger, Philom., Editor. Geiger continues, “The cold may not be as frigid as 30 or 40 years ago, but we do expect this to be the coldest winter we’ve seen for quite a few years.” And, after last year’s unusual warmth, this chill might make winter harder than usual.

Snow, and lots of it, is also forecast for the nation’s midsection, parts of New England, and the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. “The Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley may be the only area spared the extreme cold,” reveals Sandi Duncan, Philom., Managing Editor, “but this is not to say this area won’t be without its cold spells and significant snowfalls.”

The 2007 Farmers’ Almanac, released August 28, 2006, predicts the frigid temperatures, as much as 20 degrees below seasonal norms (and nearly 40 degrees colder than last winter), for Montana, the Dakotas and parts of Wyoming. For the Gulf Coast up through New England, unseasonably cold, or “shivery,” conditions are expected.

I will ski the same amount of days no matter what the weather is. I'll have fun. Some days may be better and some may be more memorable, but it really does not change anything. Ya last season was not as great as those of the past, but lift lines were shorter.
Makes me appreciate the bigger mountains that blow alot of snow. Ski season is a good thing and I can't wait.

37 days left until Sunday River is scheduled to open.. pray for colder weather! I'm loving these cool mornings! Hit a big sale at Horny Toad and scored a Cloudveil Zero G for 135$ and some awesome gloves too... my closet is bursting and I can't wait to get out there and dress warm for some cool turns!

You need the ski season to start to save some money thaller1  I saw BW has now posted in its events callender opening week of Nov 6-10th. Gives them some wiggle room.

Screw the Farmers Almanac, screw Bastardi or whatever his name is, screw the caterpillars, and screw all the long range forcasts, One way or another this will be a banner year for me!

I can see the Almanac and Bastardi if that's your thing, but caterpillars? :-? That's just sick dude... I'm not even sure how one would go about that, and I don't want to know... ;)

:p Now back to your regularly scheduled thread....

....equipment sales!

I found some Marmot stuff (shell, gloves)...50% off @Joe Jones (by Okemo). THaller1, the Horny Toad was scheduled for later in the day...but I never got to it. Really like Cloudveil stuff but the 50% sales are tough to pass on...
*I think the Wooly Bears (catepillars) grow a thicker coat....(ie wider? color ring(s)) Of course, they're more prominent out West, where the fewer chemicals in the groundwater subvert the insects far less than in the rest of the country.

I would take a closer look for this year DMC............

DMC: Not a big believer in the Almanac; however, they predicted exactly the huge floods that hit NY/PA (to the day). They predicted the Sept rain/floods within two or three days that were associated with the hurricane. So, that said, they may be right on for this year.

Next note is to Greg:

They are all epic, we remember them all (and some remember them longer due to the credit card bill!) and this one will be epic too. Last year, in one of the biggest droughts, I had one of my most epic seasons--three major trips, big pow on all of them, so this one will be epic too...................

Cool... BUT- Even a stopped clock is right twice a day... :)

Lets hope for the best...

Either Farmers is wrong or the CPC is wrong.

These snow events up North, as well as the cool-down expected this week have me really pumped now. It's coming people. The start of the memorable 2006-07 ski season is only a few weeks away!!!

indeed greg! i am beginning to share your excitement! :D though all ski seasons are memorable, some are certainly more memorable than others. here is to a good one:

my only concern at this point is a repeat of last year. big early season storms followed by no snow when we need it most. this is certainly a good setup for november, hopefully the weather pattern holds a while longer to get ski areas off to a strong start. after these next few storms this coming week, ski areas will already have a base to start snow making efforts! as long as the ground freezes, i suspect a lot of ski areas are going to be making kmart look bad... not that they really care any more.

I am moving my ski gear to Connecticut today on the ferry and I am all ready for some turns.

Hopefully there is some snow this week for some skiing.
