Seems so very long ago... Skied for the first time last Feb and hit the slopes maybe 6-8 times. I was in the cellar an hour or so ago to grab a nice 2001 Reserva from Spain and I saw our skis. I feel like I lost everything I gained. I'm sure the muscle/balance memory will return but right now it feels like I'll have to learn it all again.

Maybe it's just the vino tinto....

Just so you know, you're not alone. I've been skiing for years and years and years, and I still feel like this at the beginning of every season. One run down -- no, half a run down -- and you'll be fine.

Thanks! I'm sure the slopes will look a little steeper that first ride up. Last season I was just progressing to that point where I didn't have to be so conscious of my body (well, at least until the soft Spring conditions came along!) I'm sure it will take a few runs to a day for me. Once I get my legs back, I think I'll be taking another lesson.

This:

......just like riding a bicycle

and this:

I agree with completely.

I took many years off from skiing, when I returned I was able to pick it back up right away. And I wasn't that great of a skier when I stopped skiing.

I'm always nervous my first run of the season. and a little bit my first run every day- never know how the knees and such are going to behave.

Even worse this year, I think, considering the abysmal numbers I posted last season.

You'll be FINE I'm 67 still ski vigorously 6-7 hrs a day for 25 or so days a season

I can tell u with certainty - YOU seem to HAVE the "Tude n' desire ------ so a few runs to get the kinks out and re-establish muscle memory and you'll be fine --provided -- U stay or get into ski shape . Conditioning can seriously improve EVEN Age related issues :D :D despite what some of these young guns said bout Dylan on a diff thread :D:D

solid choice. It seems like kind of commonplace around here to just go out and start buying all different kinds of skis and equiptment thinking that's the key to improvement. A lesson or two instead of those fatter skis, or those boots you must have etc etc....

Can you give me some lessons this season?

I'm feeling a bit like you Andy, but from a different perspective. My last time out on a snowboard was March 28th which was a season ending collarbone break. As much as I am dying for the season the start in the back of my mind is a scary repeat of that accident!

I feel like I'll need to fall where I don't get hurt to actually get my confidence back. Taking the approach of "I just won't fall" will probably be bad in the long run!

Like others have said it is just like riding a bike. However . . . focus on the core skills you picked-up from last year and spend your first few runs working on good technique. Do not wait long to get a lesson and perpetuate bad habits. You will progress much faster.

I don't know why - but I'm NEVER nervous my first day out.. I always feel that the first run of the year helps defines the season - So I go for it..

I know what to do... My body knows what to do.. So i just trust and go for it..
