When you have a family member who at 36 is fighting cancer, skiing is not on the priority list. Spending time with him is.

sorry to hear this. it certainly puts things into perspective.

I haven't officially called it quits, and never say never, but it looks likely that I'm done. Maybe there will be a Tucks trip.

This weekend is the going-away party for good friends who are moving.

After that, there are only two more weekends before I leave the country for a long trip. There will be stuff to get in order before leaving.

The last two weekends at the Loaf were epic, so I'm somewhat OK with it if that's all. I would have loved to be able to stay for this week's pow, but I do need to keep this job :p

nelsapbm, obviously I was joking and apologize if I sounded insensitive. I did not realize you had such an issue and hope nothing but the best for you and your relative.

I figured you guys were joking...but just wanted to point out that there are more important things in life than skiing (well, to me anyway).

I have lacrosse practice Sunday.
Games on Saturday.
School on weekdays.
And practice after school on tuesday and thursday.

My dad coaches high school lacrosse.
My brother plays high school lacrosse.
Dad teaches at middle school.
Brother has school midweek.
Both have prectice everyday after school.

There...is....no.....time....this hurts......for snowboarding:cry:

Last fling will be at K this weekend. Then it's time to get the boats in order. Was a good season.

Same here. Now that gas is almost 3 bucks again, probably $3.50+ at marinas I am saving money for my other addiction. Skiing is actually less expensive too bad I can't do it year round without travelling around the world.

School would be the main reason. I have to do an entire semesters worth of work in 1 month to catch up on what I missed spending every weekend and some weekdays at the mountain. I have also started my real job again. As much as I love being a ski bum I need to work somewhere that will actually pay the bills. I may sneak out for one last day at Belleayre this sunday.

I officially hung 'em up back on 3/6. That was day I found out I was most likely going under the knife (which I did a week later). I managed to sneak in 2 days before the kids were born in early January, but this was pretty much a lost season for me. No big deal, just hoping for many good ones to follow....

Similar situation here. Blew out my acl on Feb. 11th. Officially hung up the boards on the 17th when I got the results of the MRI. Went under the knife on 3/20. Its been 4 weeks, and I'm just starting to walk again without crutches and/or a brace. Wheeeee!!!

And Nelsap, hang in there, best wishes to you and your family. I hope your relative kicks cancer's ass.

Well, umm multiple reasons:

1) Need new skis(ours are about 7 yrs old)
2) Gas prices
3) Need new skis(fatter)
4) Last trip kinda sucked, couldn't get our old skis up over the heavy snow.
5) Need new skis(little more updated)
6) Too much going on at home(trying to finish both upstairs and landscape.
7) Need new skis( to make season last longer)
8) Taking a much needed vacation someplace warm and to relax.
9) Need new skis(to have more fun)
10) Just bought a new, used car, the last one was a lemon
11) Need new skis(to help improve skiing ablity)
12) Bought new ski boots this year, can only do one thing at a time :(
13) Need new skis(cause I want them)

How's that for excuses? ;)

Just wait 'til next season though, after getting our new skis we'll be ripping it up all over the place. :)

My skis have been in my closet for almost a month now due to a bunch of family obligations. I too am far enough south that as spring progresses, trips to ski are further and further. These reports of Belleayre still presenting some goods has me thinking about a trip this Sunday, though.

The Cat had to import heavy equipment today to form a parking lot. Some of the snowbanks were taller than certain ski areas already closed. Plus there were many cars there for the 37 new inches.

the River hangs on!........

All the best for your relative nelsap! It's tough, but keep looking for the positive each day.... Neither one of us is going to be here forever.......!
The Loaf, River, Bush, & probably Jay, ....might bail me out with a little mo' time(one doesn't get enough of that!) this April. Sorry to have missed you @ReggaeFest BobR & others, ....came pretty close to doing a job on the right knee on Reggae-week....but a thankful rearward release simply made it a bad bruise in calf. :smash:
