I head north to the mountains for many reasons, world class food is not one of them.

How is the team doing?
I will make an attempt to stop by on a Wednesday to see you guys (even though I was released from the team 😉)

Well, I had an absolutely horrible race personally last night, but the team did well. Finished 3rd as a group. Absolutely stop on by. Always great to see you.

I’m not saying it looks bad, I’m saying it looks unremarkable and extremely similar to the very regionally standard m and m diner cookie. My hunch is that it’s famous because it’s oversized and kitschy. Not because it’s “good”

Pretty fun 3 hour session, think I got to 12k vert but racking up vert is pretty tough at this place. Peak Triple was brutal in the wind as was the runout from anything on the east side of the hill.

Actually spent the first 45 minutes or so in Cascade Basin which I imagined being a little bigger but it was nice and quiet back there with a lot less wind. At 2:00 they fired up the Vortex Double which chopped about 2 minutes off the ride to the top...faster lift and you don't have to go all the way to the base.

A lot of the groomers were pretty hardpackish and I was surprised to see no guns running at all anywhere. Cyclone was in by far the best shape of all the groomers and was worth a few reruns with softer snow than the rest. Pretty sure I skied every trail on the hill (except Breeze because there was way too much of a Breeze to want to ski a green on that side).

Hurricane and Vortex were totally deserted the first couple hours I was there but I decided to finally check them out and they weren't as bad as they looked. Vortex was actually pretty chalky and slightly soft, I think they've made snow fairly recently there. Hurricane was also chalky if you hugged skiers right but had some rather frightening hard pack and frankensnow across the rest of the trail. I wish they were running guns on this today so it could have a little freshening up.

Finally admitted defeat to the wind (and very numb feet) after 3 hours and headed to the pub for a beer. Really neat lodge! And no I didn't have a damn cookie.

This place seems like a really nice hill for locals that are close, but it really skis even smaller than it already looks (except Hurricane which is pretty legit) so not exactly a place I plan on finding myself at outside of windy groomer days like today. Ton of racers here as well...Twister and FIS both with training ongoing.

Still thinking a Stowe area trip is in order this weekend. Maybe something like Bolton Sunday and then Stowe Monday.
