Mountain guides ski 100+ days a year, have jobs that are not super-stable or predictable, have good gear, but have scraggly facial hair, do not have a menial jobs, have good perks, have trouble maintaining romantic relationships etc... I guess they fall into their own unique category- little bit of both. Like they say-- the only difference between a mountain guide and a pepperoni pizza is a pizza can feed a family of 4.

Agree with snoseek that Alta is a good place to explore the ski bum world (ps when did you work there?)
