It's Official: Centex OUT of K-Mart Deal (For Now)

Nice one, Bob R. Centex likes your home mountain better than K-Mart and is focusing on the development there. To translate, they are pulling out of the K-Mart deal and focusing on the Loon development. We'd heard the rumors, but now it is in the VT News.

Curious to see how the housing market holds up in the Loon region. Alot of homes for Sale in Campton.
Seems like the lower end is selling pretty good the bigger places still are for sale. Right on resort property (South mountain) may make a difference. I really don't think this is much of a shift. South mountain is and was a go. Lets see how Loon's trail and lift development proceed. A thing to consider here is the Whites have alot to offer in the Summer. It can be busy up there this time of year..

Year-round recreation is a big draw to the Whites. The trade-off may be more crowds on the slopes and less terrain variety/quality than Vermont, but I'd prefer hiking the Whites almost ANYDAY than the Greens.

I perfer the White's all around. Easy to get to. 4 Season activiies. I grew up in VT still Love it. Nh is where I will retire.

The proposed development that has been talked about since the 80's is going through as I understand.

I think 7 new trails a base lodge and quad lift. The lift, Lodge andsnow making are tentative for 2007-2008. That it the schedule I have heard. Sounds hard to do IMO. I have not talked to anyone up there since April.

The road behind the river where the Stables are is where construction already started last spring. Looked like just road improvemnets and land clearing. This stage of housing developement is individual homes only.
Condo' units are part of future develpoment. I believe permits are still needed.

Now Bob, Loon had already cleared the trails and liftline as long ago as the late '90's right? And the WMNF shut them down because they did not have the permits in hand. I assume they are using the same trails, with maybe some additions? Having that W exposure might not be so great for holding snow...

Lots of info about South Peak on their website www.southpeakresort.com. I have been following this developement ever since I first saw their display ad a couple of years ago.

Here is an artist's rendering of the new developement. I strongly believe that once SP is completed it will propel Loon to a much higher ranking among NE ski resorts.

Sorry Bob...I think your in for increased crowds, higher overall real estate prices as well as property taxes.

Expansion was going to happen some time. This has brought about change. That happens. If I don't like it I'l sell and move on. I will have made good money having fun.
