Resort or Ski Area: Jay Peak
Conditions: Powdah and some crowds
Trip Report: It was an epic day in northern VT. I drove up Friday night to a friend's house in Hanover, then up to Jay to meet others who took Friday off and stayed up there. We started on the Jet lift at 9:00, no crowds (yet) and skied a few runs off Timbuktoo, especially just outside the ski area boundry. There was knee deep untracked snow and it was pretty incredible.
The lines got quite long right before lunch so we grabbed a quick bite and headed over to the Tram side. I skied an unmarked glade off of Northwest Passage to the bottom of Everglade, the top was sketchy, the bottom was great. Then three straight runs on Beaver Pond and Beyond Beaver Pond. The further out you went the better the snow.
Then we drove home to Boston for a late arrival at a Chinese New Years party on Saturday night. It snowed all day, people who stayed up there said Sunday was just as good. The top of the mountain was quite windblown, the trees were the best but every trail had some nice snow on the sides.
