Yeah, that seems more circumstantial than some sort of major business strategy to me.

I lamented the loss of the six pack for Bonnie replacement, but honestly, its not the end of the world if they were to just replace it with say a Skytrac fixed grip.

If it were my money, I'd bump the Jet to a fixed grip quad. Replace the Bonnie with another fixed grip quad. Then when the Flyer shits the bed, split it into two lifts, both fixed grip quads, one terminating right around the intersection of Upper Goat Run and Staircase / Northwest Passage and then another starting around the intersection of Ullrs Dream and Kokomo that terminates where the Flyer currently tops out. That is probably the best course of action in regards to managing wind holds and uphill capacity. Tram has to stay and be replaced eventually though for a signature lift if you are going the whole non-high speed route.

saw a letter jay sent about early season skinning and people's reckless behavior (im assuming this is just the go to thread for jay). annoying social media influenced jerries ruining it for the locals. i hate authority under a lot of circumstances but i'd go out of my way to be safe and respectful to the mountain ops and jay crew with them being nice enough to let people ski the mountain at this time. same with mrg patrol, they are chill and i'll respect them (whaleback patrollers? hell naw lol)

Well someone started a fire, Others broke into the lift shacks and then some guy did a back flip and messed up his back badly. Also a few groups needed to be rescued...

This is why most areas do not allow any access when they’re not open. There’s always a few that ruin a good thing. As far as respecting one patrol over another because they’re “cool” is lame. If you’re hiking for turns it’s not your land - not your call. If someone yells at you and not cool it’s because of the problems that Jay is now experiencing.

jeez, arrest them, let them pay for rescue, ruins it for everyone else - the 95% - who leave the mountain with tracks and nuttin' else. I remember walking into the old Castlerock warming hut- still there- smelled like smoke and gas heater was on. They didn't really trash it, but could have started a fire. doesn't take many to crush it for the rest of the backcountry gang- another reason to stay in backcountry as opposed to cut trails I guess. I bet the backflip was videoed . .

The other classic one there is skiing near winch operations, apparently even skiing over winch lines. Even if you are willing and legally able to put the entire liability on the skier who gets themselves badly hurt or killed, that's a seriously traumatic experience for the cat operator and anyone else who has to deal with it.

Crap like that makes me miss the old days when it was much smaller uphill crowds who understood that staying the hell out of the way was crucial.

People just can’t help themselves. It was like this at Stowe Friday and I’m sure the same over the weekend. Everyone drove past this sign in the lot plus multiple posts on their social media stating to stay in the gondola area. Yet, you could pick out many people still hiking and skiing on the Four runner trails from the lot. IMG_6804.jpeg

I go touring all the time but I swear uphill skiers are the most entitled group of people you will ever meet.

Can they really compete with the strangled-testicled road bicyclists?
I officiated cycling races for a while. Juniors could be a pain in the ass, but that's kinda expected of teenagers and there are developmental reasons they aren't good at decision making. The fast adults (Cat 1/2 fields) were generally pretty good and quick to call out their peers for being jackasses. The slower adults were a mix; some were newbies who didn't know better, some were jackasses, most were pretty good.

But the worst fields to deal with (in general) were the men's masters fields. I'm sure it was a significant minority, not a majority, that gave the rest a bad name, but the force between how seriously they took themselves and how fast they were, combined with a similar gap between what they thought they should be able to do and what the rules actually said, made for one heck of a combination.

But I'd wager there's a non-trivial overlap between road cyclists and uphill-focused skiers.

This would have been absolutley unheard of at Jay Peak even a handful of years ago.

What is the potential cause?

1) People who've moved to Vermont since COVID?
2) Explosion in newbie skinning popularity since COVID?
3) Just a younger entitled generation in general?
4) Something else entirely?
