I have some family planning to visit after the new year, and one of them is “the guy who gets hurt every family vacation”.

He hasn’t skied in decades, but he’s gonna buckle up. Everyone will have the ski patrol phone number saved.

I'll make sure I'm off that day :)

I see that Jay adds insurance to your ticket for 1.50. It is for 10k in coverage.
Do any other ski areas do this?
I think most, if not all, ski hills in Europe do this. They will charge you for a regular on piste call. if you don't buy the insurance.

A few years ago I was skiing a very foggy Val d'Isere with a ski club friend who was experiencing bad vertigo. We tried to get her down and eventually called patrol to get her a ride down to the top of the gondola. They tried to charge her $60.00 and we had to prove to them that we had bought the insurance. PITA.

I was trip leader so I had to deal with it. I included the cost of insurance into the trip's pricing so we all had it.

Vail probably adds life insurance to your ticket for 1.50, but names itself as the sole beneficiary.
"We name me personally as the beneficiary. It's EPIC."

Does it bother anyone else but me that Canadians ski at Jay for 30% less than United States people because they accept the loonies at a one to one exchange rate?

Heard it was an absolute s#^t show today at Jay. I’m glad. Their customers shouldn’t tolerate this.

Also, is it legal to give discounts to Canadian citizens just because their currency is hot garbage? I don’t care if they’ve been doing this for 30 years. It would be unconstitutional to give discounts to certain states as it would violate interstate commerce laws.

Canada is not a state. Yet.

And I’d think a business can accept whatever payment it wants.

A quick search confirms that it is likely legal.

It also confirms that this trade practice does increase the cost for Americans and if the federal government chooses to start investigating unfair trade practices Jay would not be able to defend the practice and stay solvent at the same time. They would need to just cease giving Canadians a 30% discount.
