Jay Peak Ordered To Fix Wetlands

Wednesday, 10/13/10 6:06am
Jay, VT

Jay Peak Resort has been ordered to fix wetlands and streams that regulators say were harmed when a golf course was built.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says Jay Peak violated the Clean Water Act when a construction company discharged fill materials into streams.
The EPA says the streams feed into Jay Branch Brook and eventually the Missisiquoi River.
Jay Peak President Bill Stenger says the problems cropped up about five years ago. He says repairs to the streams and wetlands have been completed.

According to the article it sounds like it is in the streams:

"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says Jay Peak violated the Clean Water Act when a construction company discharged fill materials into streams."

I realize the spill was due to the construction company. I'm just horrible at golf and am jaded when I hear about them spraying chemicals to keep things green and perfect.

Golf and ski resorts are no different though I guess. There's always going to be a foot print for our activities.

At least ski resorts pretend to be 'green', haha!

A friend of mine lives by the Jay Brook... ever since they implemented the golf course (meaning, tearing down a whole forest in order to put grass and lots of chemicals), the water runs a lot quicker and a lot browner then before... it affected his quality of living... he can not swim all the time anymore... The trees use to take up a lot of that water...

I don't like golf courses either... but at least they look good on a photo of your resort!

Exactly. I love Jay and this article made me sad.
