Jay Peak Ski Patrol and Marketing Campaign Receive Prominent Awards

May 17, 2011 (Jay, VT)- It's award season up at Jay Peak as the resort recently received two prominent honors.

The National Ski Patrol earlier this month awarded the Jay Peak Ski Patrol its Eastern Division's Outstanding Large Alpine Patrol decoration for the 2010-11 season. To be named an Outstanding Patrol, a resort's rescue team must distinguish itself on multiple levels including rigorous training standards, the overcoming of unusual hardships and challenges presented by the mountain environment , and the development of equipment or procedures that make the sport of skiing easier or safer, to name a few.

In receiving the outstanding patrol award, the JPSP was honored above nine other large ski patrols in the East.

"This is really exciting to us,"said Jay Peak Patrol director Peg Doheny. "We feel we are a very strong patrol. We have a lot of folks from very diverse backgrounds, which strengthens our skills."

Doheny said that one of the keys to the JPSP's success is consistency.

"Whether patrollers are paid or volunteer, everyone is required to meet the same training standard and required to perform the same duties, and that can actually be unusual for patrols. (At Jay Peak) we are challenged more so than many other eastern patrols by the diverse weather, extreme terrain, and potential for extreme search and rescue situations. Because of the relationship between volunteers and pros, we benefit from each other's talents and energies."

On the "office" side of things, Jay Peak again was honored by the National Ski Areas Association with the Best Overall Marketing Program award. The NSAA Marketing awards are presented annually to ski resorts across the country for their successful sales & marketing programs that help grow the sports of skiing and snowboarding. The prize recognizes the best in ski area marketing campaigns.

"It's an honor to receive this kind of recognition,"remarked Steve Wright, Jay Peak's sales and marketing chief. "There are over 300 winter resorts in the country. It feels good when the work you and your team has done is brought into the spotlight by an organization like the NSAA."

The marketing awards are based on resort size as determined by skier visits. Jay Peak received the Best Overall Marketing award for a resort registering between 100,000-250,000 visits. It is the fourth year in a row Jay Peak has received the honor.

Other winners this year include Telluride Ski & Golf Resort in Colorado (250,000 - 500,000 skier visits) and Mammoth, CA (500,000 or more skier visits.)
