Jiminy's web site says that they are "giving a face lift" to John Hancock, which is a nice old style New England type trail. It is to be a beginner trail. I know we need to bring more people to the sport and beginners need space, but I hate to see a fun little trail like this be changed. Does anyone know what the "face lift" amounts to. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I fear it means homogenizing it. It's too bad too. Jiminy really has (had) a lot of potential in terms of offering a wide variety of terrain. They have good pitch, powerful snow making and a great lift system. It used to be one of my favorite places to ski, but when everything is buffed flat and skis the same it kinda got boring. They're very successful though so they must be doing something right. I just wish the terrain was more interesting. I still like Wild Turkey, far skier's right on Jericho and the Foxes though.

Agreed! I read they are adding snowmaking to JC and will probably widen it in spots....like Greg said...just take the character out of the trail. Foxes was really fun on the last day of the season up there, April 5. It was the run of the day, I think. That was like the only trail there with any curves to it. If nothing else, they do blow a ton of snow up at Jiminy.....and the windmill is supercool. :)

YIKES: Just read this over at Snowjournal. Some first hand Beta. Not good!

Jiminy Peak is mostly a bunch of blowing alleys, but I think it’s a good idea to put snowmaking on JH. With the little natural snow they get it’s hardly ever open. What they do best is make snow, so it seems to me they should have done it on JH years ago.

speaking of natural snow trails, what's your favorite?

At Jiminy? Lifline or Upper Ex are the only two that I know of and I've never been there when they were open. Liftline does look awesome though.

Oh, and Azalea Path is sick. ;)

I don't see how you can blame them. You've got a natural snow trail at a MASSACHUSETTS ski area that is WWAAYY underutilized on a section of the mountain where the kids may want to go and play in the terrain park and now you're giving the lower level skiing/riding non terrain park using Mom + Dad a more dependable trail to ski within the same terrain pod as terrain park using little Johnny or little Sally. Makes sense to me.

Plus, Brian Fairbanks has about a 30 year track record of making some pretty solid descisions with respect to the operations at Jiminy. My guess is this will end up being looked back upon as a GOOD descision by most folks.

John Hancock ends up at the last drop on Ace of Spades, this is not beginners terrain. What are they going to do to Ace?

Does it dump out on Ace of Spades high up enough, and is the Grand Slam chair high enough u off the ground where they could conceivably cut a crossover from Ace to Grand Slam right where Hancock ends? Of course, the alpine slide might be a problem..

narrow green circles aren't good for beginners..Burma Road at Blue is a narrow green and it doesn't give beginners much room to practice..

No. The Alpine slide and the Mountain Coaster both would be in the way.
