yeah, i called him and got the scoop.

here's the one thing i simply do not understand. He said both downdraft and cascade had been groomed. Now i understand that today they probably would have roped off downdraft had it been ungroomed, but they basically provide the same thing. why on earth cant they just leave one (downdraft) alone and wait for a warmer day to open it. The weather this week looks like its gonna be beautiful and warmer by the day. Whats the harm in leaving it alone???? There isnt enough traffic midweek to bump it back up by friday. thinking selfishly here, cause i wont be there on the weekend. Steve said the place was a ghost town. i couldve guessed that. Superstar was groomed also, except for the lower half of skiers left. its all quite frustrating, really.

Despite the lack of bumps I did have a blast making high speed GS turns on the virgin voyage of my Legends!!

I didn't get out until about 11:30 today, figuring there would be limited good choices for a bit. First run was Great Northern, checking for Highline. Closed. In the ride up the Gondi, someone suggested Racer's Edge, which I had assumed was closed but figured it worth a shot. It was indeed closed. Waited at Highline for ski patrol, with the intention of asking them when they were opening it up, but my skis off ambush was unnecessary as the first one down took a check-out run down it. Took another couple laps and Highline was open, basically did that the rest of the day aside from bombing down Cascade to catch up with some friends I saw headed towards the course on my way up and poaching Conclusion once. Conclusion was firm, might hold out this week if they push some snow onto upper Conclusion. Highline won't make it, too thin and too much sun. Escapade should hold out, and was the run of the day Friday and Saturday; great, great lines. Big Dipper might hold out as well, some ok bumps along the Canyon quad. Hopefully after this week they'll change their grooming plan for Superstar some, at least get bumps for middle Ovation and expand the ungroomed section of Superstar; that way there'll be some bumpy goodness mid-week with only SS spinning.

Saw Iceman a couple times today on the course, including a 720 attempt (think he sat down on the landing or something, but was damn close.) Also ended up riding the gondi with Tyrolean at the end of the day coincidentally. Didn't even realize it until she started talking about her son with one of the other KMS moms.

Another reason why Sugarbush is the best bet. Chances are that is where we are going the next few weekends.

I skied Sugarloaf today. Over past couple of weeks, unless the temps are getting into the 50s, anything that is not groomed is unski-able. It was in the 40s with full throttle sun and that wasn't enough to soften the ungroomed. Believe me, I tried. Kudos to Sugarloaf for keeping a lot of ungroomed stuff exactly that way. Untouched by groomers.
