One less I have to contend with.

Have fun wherever you think is better.

I'll have fun where I know is better, for me. I have nothing against the mountain itself. They have some incredible terrain. Its more the vibe and the people that go there for the most part. I've only been there a handful of times, but the whole vacation community and vibe isn't for me. Don't take it personally. It's just not a place I would want to ski that often, or for that price.

I can understand how some people feel about K. K is 2 different ski areas weekends vs. weekdays. I wouldn't want to ski there on weekends either but during the week it's totally different. Most other places I wouldn't want to ski on weekends either. I'm spoiled since the past few years I'm able to ski mostly weekdays. They do an incredible job taking care of the mountain everyday not just for weekend crowds. Yes I was a weekend warrior for many years.

The past several years I buy a weekday only pass for K & usually get the daily rate under $20 a day by the end of the season. I already have this years pass down to about $25 a day. That's a very reasonable rate in my book. I also ski other areas with discount vouchers so all my days aren't just at K. I plan on skiing Stowe & Jay later this week with a few friends. I've also skied Sugarbush, MRG & Stratton a few times this year so far. Who knows you might even see me up at the Loaf for the gathering later this month. I have to see how things go.

That's understandable, most mountains change completely from midweek to weekend. Just a lot of families the few times I've been there. I've only started going there this season, and have by no means explored 100% of the area. I just found the trails very congested with lots of disrespectful skiers and riders, the ones that cut you off or take up the whole trail aimlessly, or that single skier who will jump on a lift with your group even though there's no line for next chair, then ends up knocking you over at the dismount. That's my big thing with Killington. I just picked up sort of a rude vibe from the area, people seem to be constantly rushing, bumping into you and not apologizing, knocking whole rows of boards and skis over and not even thinking about going to pick them up. I guess it doesn't help that I learned to ski on little mountains, maybe the 100+ trail super resorts just aren't for me. I'll get there midweek sometime. I'm going to wait for snow though.

WOW!!!

I've never experienced anything like that at K or any other mountain for that matter.

Congested trails????:dontknow:

There's nobody there during the week.

Learning to ski at small mountains?

Been skiing 50+ years

I've skied a majority of the areas listed in NELSAP.

The mountains I learned to ski at no longer exist.

But that's neither here nor there.

To each his own.

From K-Zone, apparently they are cutting back the hours of operation by 30 min. WEAK move.

Do you ski every day from bell to bell? Im talking every day, first chair to last, no questions.

If you dont, then this isnt a problem. End of story.

I don't agree with this line of thinking at all. Sometimes you're just having a great day of skiing and want to ski bell to bell. It doesn't matter if you do this every time out or not. It's just nice to have the option on any given day.

Edit: It also means the consumer will be getting ~6% less product and paying the same for it, akin to what's going on with retail packaging at the grocery store. Who likes that?

Obviously nobody skis every day bell to bell. But I disagree with your theory.

I would say that apart from spring skiing, I am almost always out at 8:00. Perhaps you have never made it out for a first chair, but if you had then you would know that even on an average winter day often the best skiing is in that early part of the day before the crowds really develop by 9:15 - 9:30.

As behemoth said, it is nice to have the option.

It should be noted that this change is for Saturday/Sunday's and NOT Monday through Friday. And this change is suppose to happen next season (they already open at 9am daily early season anyway), a lot can change between now and then.

Right, but that is still approximately 6% less skiing on each of those days.

What does 6% change on 2 days and 0% change the other 5 days of the week equal out to?

That's silly. How many people here ski mainly weekends? I'll answer that for you-way more than half. That extra half hour is critical for those that look to get out early and avoid crowds. I for the life of me can't figure out why you always step in to defend the mountain whenever they make an unpopular decision. Are you marketing or something?

Clearly you're local and probably get out there frequently. So answer me this-Aren't you going to miss showing up and banging out a bunch of runs before the masses show up? Kiss that goodbye, you'll be lining up with the rest of NJ every Saturday morning. That 2 hour session of wide open fast cruising...kiss that goodbye

I see your point, and you are correct in your assertion that over the course of a full week, an hour less skiing is not significant.

I just tend to look at things from the 'weekend warrior' perspective, since unfortunately, being 26 and employed full time, is my only way of enjoying the sport.

A full Killington season pass is good 7 days per week, if people choose to only use the pass for 2 of the 7 days each week than why complain about missing out on 1 hour of uncrowded skiing per week when you choose not to go the other 35 uncrowded hours in the week?

To answer your question, I downgraded to a midweek pass this year since I am local and work at night so I can ski everyday if I wanted to. With that said I like to get out at opening so I can get the best conditions of the day whether it be a powder day or groomer day. I don't like to wake up early to get out at the earlier opening time on weekends so with that and the higher cost of the blackout pass I now choose not to ski weekends at all.

Right, because those 40+ hours that most of us spend in our offices Monday-Friday is just our way of "choosing not to ski the uncrowded hours."

The bottom line is that Killington is cutting the hours of operation on the far and away two busiest days of the week, effecting a great percentage of their customer base. It's great that you live local and can ski during the day, but most of the customer base does not have that ability.

Bottom line is people are purchasing a pass good for 51 hrs a week of access to the lifts per week and Killington is planning to reduce it to 50 hrs per week. A very tiny reduction.

I give up. You and Adiron are right, how silly of us weekend day-trippers who don't ski first to last chair every single day to think we have a logical point about how the almighty Killington is run.
