The grade school ski and ride programs for the 06-07 season appear to be up and running. These programs are offered by each state's respective ski area association.

I will be applying for NY (4th grade) and VT (5th grade).

The following advice is based on participating in one state's program only.

The cost for each passport is much less than one ticket.

You DO NOT have to be a resident of the state that is issuing the passport! You could use them for trips.

Each program should be checked for blackout dates.

I used the NY passport last year and it contained a load of one day passes for other states.

Have a great season!

Thanks for the advice. I noticed that the Maine passport is for 5th, 6th and 7th graders. You mentioned 4th grade in NY. Is this program national? What ages are covered? How do the resorts validate the age of the child? Thanks for the information.

I do not believe it to be a national program. I believe it to be a semi-coordinated set of programs offered by each state's ski area association. Each state's program appears to be independent.

The resorts do not validate the age. Each program has separate verification of age but in NY, the program requires a report card to be submitted as part of the application for the passport.

In checking out the Main site, it seems to only apply to Maine kids and their families.
