Conditions: powder, loose powder, packed powder
stunning day. greeted friday morning by 2-day total of 18" with 8" of blower on top of the 10" the received the previous day. love that one-two punch. the heavier filler snow followed by the fluff. continued snowing lighly for much of the day.
scored 3rd chair on supe lift. first trax on skye hawk into lark where i'd 'shared' firsts with another guy. the meriment continued on ovation where i was able to score another clean line. same with the hawk yet again. firsts on somewhere & nowhere. top-to-bottom on another tree run in the area where i was thigh deep at times. unbelieveable! stunned at how light the turnout was early in the morning on a powday on a holiday weekend. where was everyone.
then it was off to the snowden trees where i did laps until lunch still finding plenty of untracked. after lunch, a couple shots off the k1 where lower downdraft was the first and only 'disappointment' of the day, huge bumps but plenty of scrapeage. the light skiing excellently where it was still possible to make trax off the main lines. off to jug>breakaway which by now was tracked out but plenty of loose pow. amazing since we had done our 'farewell' tour on many of these runs the previous weekend and now were skiing them in nearly the best mid-winter conditions. in bear spent most of the time in the woods breaking them up with some shots through the bumps on wildfire which were soft for the most part. off to needles where thimble & upper needles still had excellent snow. same with vertigo. able to find untracked lines in the trees in that area. finished back on the supe lift where it all began.
saturday the pow feeding frenzy was over. still a great day. started out bluebird before clouding over. highlights continued to be the snowden trees. please don't put a hsq over there. bear trees skiing excellently. light surprisingly still had loose. nats like upper needles & thimble excellent. breakaway & roundabout as good as they've been all year. wildfire skied off.
all-in-all an incredible 2 days. for me second only to the st patty's miracle. less snow but very similar. i think this snow with the continued cold weather sealed the deal for the may 6 closing at k. it's been one hell of a month!
