Perhaps Spinmaster can jump in and let us know if they plan to make the repairs to the pipes on Double Dipper anytime in the near future......?

yeah would like to hear the mtn's take ... looked like a lot of damage. a number of the pipes were bent and a couple were broken. wondering if the main line sustained any damage. not an easy location to do work and i'm not sure they'd want to risk a cat on the area above the slide. not sure when or if we'll see dd this year.

my question is what they can do to prevent these from happening. last year it was lower ovation. and i think we've two on the vertical headwall the last couple of years before that. is it because they're blowing wet heavy snow and allowing these huge whales to build. are they not repositioning the guns often enough? should they have groomed after wednesday's thaw to break up the surface before resuming snowmaking?

Sunday River has had them on black hole. I believe they had them on back to back attempts to cover the trail with snow last year or the prior year.

i had never heard of any until 4-5 years when the vertigo headwall slid. now it seems k has one a year. and i'm hearing other areas have them as well. seems to me anyway like a recent thing.

I wonder if the increase in efficiency in snowmaking has helped to increase the number of slides?

I'm going to look into this....

IMHO I think they should plant some trees on Double Dipper to help keep the snow better. It would also make it a more interesting trail than it is now too.

Have to agree with you on that one Ty!

Or they could have just left the trees there that were there to begin with. Pres did some wonderful things while developing Killington. Making Dipper a super-higway was not one of them.

It would take a lifetime to re-forest that area. Ain't gonna happen. I agree with both of you though.

Didn't ASC cut that trail?

I could be wrong ('cause I usually am), but I believe that trail was cut pre-ASC. Again, I could be wrong. If I remember correctly, Pres cut the trail and ASC put in the lift. Def not 100% sure about that though.

BTW, get your wifes bindings tightened down. I saw her walk out of her skies 3 times on Saturday. One was a full blown yard sale on GN just below Upper West Glade. Seriously.

thats actually a very funny story. She ended up going down to the ski shop at KBL to have them checked, they had to bribe the guy to look at them, he said they didn't seem to be the right binding settings for her boots. It was only then that she discovered she had taken out someone elses skis (same exact model) and also had the other womans poles too. Funny stuff.

actually SKI can take all the blame in this case. cut the trail in mid-80's & built the lift around 91-92.

glad she survived but that was one funny story ... i heard it was more of berate than a bribe ;-)

That is funny, yet it doesn't surprise me, knowing your wife and all.

actually I prolly would have done the same thing. Its a pretty rare ski (Nordica Olympia) and I've seen that other pair and mistaken them for hers too. Bindings are the same too because they're integrated. And the same length.
