Early report
superstar - great surface
ovation - groomed down the middle, firm but still edgeable
double dipper - fast and firm. A little scratchy.
downdraft - not groomed last night so a little rough
rime - fast and fun. Big fast turns
highline - oh yeah. I'm going back for seconds.

Gotta go. More later.

This is disappointing to say the least. Perhaps a road trip is in order...

Next week is a big ski week. Kmart is probably prepping the surface for the masses.

The hill is actually riding really well despite no natural in a while. I ride it everyday and conditions have been fine, not great but i'll take what i can get given the current weather. To say K is shot doesnt make much sense, if any. Come up here and check it out.

Brownesville, sad to say, but these days you'll find better bumps at Sunapee than the mighty K .

Speaking of which, anyone know how the bumps at Sunapee have been? I'm planning on going on Sunday and may want to try the easiest ones available...

umm...Killington , perhaps?
Sunapee..

is a GREAT day mountain...I skied the hell out of it as a kid...they will NOT leave any mogul fields...they pretty much carpet roll everything overnight...which isnt necessarily a bad thing..since the mountains core client base just wants CRUISERS...hell...it MIGHT even make the Dis look like a good skier!

when is the last time you've been to Sunapee? They appear to have a far greater commitment these days to providing a quality mogul product than Killington.

Umm, I've skied bumps every day I've been there. I've had a blast every time. It's rough here and there, but what do you expect with 10" of snow over the last 4 weeks? Snowmaking on OL now, I bet bumps are decent by Saturday afternoon.

Maybe if you weren't taking condition reports from groomer-lovers, you'd get a different story.

.....well 2knees and crew were just there and reported the place flat as a pancake.

It seems to me that they talked up their seeding program a fair bit pre-season. I haven't read much about them.

I was there today. Here's my bump report:

Superstar headwall, right side: short stretch of GS bumps
Lower Superstar, right side: nice stretch of bumps. Sorta GS-like but nice blow-in so they were soft and fun
Lower Supe, left: didn't ski them, but more GS bumps on the double falline. Access under the chair is roped as the chair is pretty low.
We scoped that line directly to the skier's right of the Dipper woods (freeway or something?). Looked pretty coral-like
Needles, upper: nice stretch of bumps, very short
Needles, lower under the gondi: Ungroomed garbage. About a 5 bump pseudo-zipper. The rest was firm and relatively flat crap
SkyeHawk and Upper Downdraft: Both roped. Gnar ugliness on both
Lower section of the golf course under the chair on upper OL: Awesome 10-12 bump zippers. Thin, but skied awesome.
OL getting pounded this afternoon so the Course skied great late in the day. It might actually get buried if they blow all night though. Far skier's right on lower OL had bumps, more GS crappyness.

So, not much for bumps. I really hope that after Prez Week, they chill out with the grooming. And maybe either seed or let some of the less steep single blacks naturally bump up. My fear is the brutal grooming will continue well into the spring and squeeze all the air out of the base pinning it down so only broad sweeping push piles form when it gets warm, only to be plowed and packed down again for the next day. Time will tell.

The sunny groomers skied awesome today though so I did enjoy myself.

I've been up for a few days skiing: It's pretty cold and it hasn't snowed in weeks. Take your pick, groomed or ice bumps that they have to rope off. They could try seeding a few, but unless they're doing it every night, or making snow on it every night, it isn't going to be skiable for long.

Yeah, I get that. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Hoping for an epic and late bumped up spring.
