I dont really follow killington that much. From the Vibe i get from internets they are horrible. But if it were my main hill I would be pretty pumped for what went on over the past couple of years. One cavaet, unless I was a land owner.

I think Killington is on the right track after a year of transition. At first they seemed very stedfast in their ways and their decisions, but as time went on, they seemed to bend more and more after seeing what some of their decisions did to their skier visits.

I think they're on the right track and hopefully they can restore Killington to her former glory. There is a lot of work needed in and around the mountain itself, and the new owners seem to finally be getting a grip on what needs to be done and how to do it. Most of the changes now seem to be positive ones. I only hope that the access road can survive and thrive like it used to with all the changes being made.

I will be splitting most of my ski time this season between Killington and Mad River Glen. Two great mountains that are only an hour apart. If the snow is good, it'll be Mad River most of those days. If conditions are questionable, it will Killington most of those days.

I don't want this to get political at all; not my intention.

I do question this item here:

Environmental: Killington Resort has purchased 26,199,909 kWh of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), which will eliminate more than 17,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere - an amount equivalent to emissions produced by the annual electricity consumption of approximately 2,079 average homes.

That's fine and dandy...but wouldn't the money have been better spend elsewhere making improvements? I really wonder if anyone will read that and say: "Oooh! I'm going there this winter because of the carbon offsets!" I saw a similar thing on Stratton's website last year. I personally though the money could spent more efficiently on other tangable upgrades. But maybe that's just me? Does something like carbon offsets sway anyone here towards one resort or the other?

Now on the other hand:

Killington will install systems to capturing heat from our snowmaking compressors to dry snowmakers clothing and to heat our vehicle maintenance facility.

I find something like this good...kind of in a "Here's some good ol' thrifty Yankee Inginuity" way. To me, that's saving $....as long as it doesn't take 25 years to realize the savings of installing the new system.

People hate on Killington because they used to get a shitton for not much money. Now that a company took over that isnt trying to run it into the ground in today's market, people are pissed they cant ski 7 months a year for 300 bucks. Thats why people hate Killington.

Now you got a problem with people from New Jersey too? Is there anyone or anything you don't have a problem with? Did I say something to upset you?

most of k's "critics" (i won't use the word haters) are folks who have/had been skiing there for years - long before the cheap tickets and remember what made k great. maybe the new owners will make k "great" once again but it will certainly be a much different "great". to get a sense of that direction, one need look no further than the hatchet job done on bittersweet and the plundering of an adjacent tree run to make that change. losing the old bittersweet is no great loss but it does indicate where their priorities are.

While they may be the most vocal critics (the longtimers you mention above) I dont think that the majority of Killington criticism comes from the longtime diehards. In my day to day life as a ski bum 90% of the people who were pissed were the people who bought the A41 and used it to its fullest, but lack the business sense to realize that when energy costs triple over a 5 year span, that it cannot be sustained.

I like Killington a lot as well as Mad River Glen, but you can't always ski Mad River Glen all the time because of conditions sometimes. You can only ski Mad River Glen if you can ski Mad River Glen, if you can.

Killington has awesome terrain and diversity of that terrain so it's a great combo to have those 2 areas so close to eachother.

I could never hate Killington, not with such a wonderful mountain and great bars and restaurants and people. People shouldn't be hating Killington because they aren't getting to go there so cheaply any more. That's just my opinion. I'm sure many other people have many other opinions.

I do not mean to upset anyone with my posts. I just love being at Killington and at Mad River Glen.
