20 people bitching on a couple of message boards does not a PR disaster make.

Good point..This may be true for some of the smaller issues, but many people will or have noticed the incredible increase in pricing from season passes to child programs, and that will turn people away... but that's what they want so they'll likely get what they want. I personally don't see myself going back for a while. There are better alternatives really. The real travesty IMO will be if they cut the season down to mid April. I feel for the locals who are used to skiing the "King of Spring" that will be looking for other places to ski in mid - late April, early May

One more thing to add to this...with the recent changes at Killington, someone who would normally take a day off from work to go ski Killington - where will they go now if they're fed up about Skyeship 1 being closed? Greens and blues at Okemo? MRG really doesn't count because quite frankly a MRG skier will choose MRG over Killington just about any day when there's ample snow. So, the only choice left in the area is Sugarbush.

And what does Sugarbush tend to do midweek? Close lifts and pods. The Slidebrook (my favorite lift there) tends to be closed during slow times. Also, when I've skied there midweek, North Lynx and Inverness have been closed due to lack of skiers.

(Important note, I find the terrain at Sugarbush to be much better than that at KMart and am not intending to trash the owners of KMart or the Bush).

Why isn't Sugarbush being trashed too? Killington isn't the only one in the area with slow time lift and terrain closures.

Cause, like MRG, Sugarbush has a bit of a halo effect on this board. Yes I went there.

Good point, I see two reasons for this:

1) Have you ever had a friend that you would always help out with things no matter what and then the one time you don't help them out they resent you for it? It's the same thing. People are used to stage 1 being opened. They resent the fact that it won't be open when they want it to.

2) Sugarbush has an excellent PR department. They are constantly reaching out to the public and are effective in communicating both the good news and the bad.

Sugarbush isn't getting bashed because they haven't recently 'taken anything away' from skiers. If they had been running Slidebrook all along and then this year decided to only open it on weekends I bet there would be people bitching about it here. Same thing if they decided to close Ellen Tues and Weds.

Is there a bit of a halo affect for Sugarbush around here, sure a little I guess. Don't you think there might be a reason for that?? FWIW I have seen several complaints about Slidebrook being closed midweek around here, myself included. ;)

Brian is right on. When Sugarbush decided to move their spring skiing venue from Mount Ellen to Lincoln Peak, there was a lot of "feedback" here and on SkiMRV.com.

That's true, I forgot about that too.

One thing always strikes me about the uproar in regards to powdrs changes. Its who is doing the most of it. I've followed many of the threads here and on kzone. Most of the noise seems to be coming from former A41 pass holders and ski house share people. Now being upset about the shortened season is logical because that truly affects everyone. But the amount of people up in arms about the midweek closing of the lodges, the tues. wed shut down of pico and the 3 day shut down of the skyeship seems disproportionate to how often they actually used them during these midweek days. I'm sorry but i ski killington primarily on weekdays the last 5 years or so. Guess what, its rather desolate. Unless all these people dont work, i cant see how it is directly affecting them. I dont hear many killington locals coming on these boards professing disgust and anger over these moves and those would be the most affected. Quite honestly, sometimes it seems almost like a mob mentality.

Riot person #1 "Hey powdr is closing pico tues and wednesday. Everyone grab their pitchforks."
Riot person #2 "Yeah, lets burn 'em at the stake."
Riot person #3 "wait, did anyone ski pico on a tuesay last year?"
Riot person #1 "No, as a matter of fact I don't even know where it is, but that's NOT THE POINT!"

That being said, everyone is entitled to their opinion so this is just mine.

I'm proud of you son. You have accepted the mantle of pot stirrer.

Everyone loves to bash K.

Your points are well thought out and are one reason why I'm ready to give Killington a serious chance this coming season.

Bingo.

If Pico being closed a few days a week prevents you from skiing Pico those days, that's understandable.

If Pico being closed a few days a week prevents you from skiing Killington, that doesn't make as much sense.

If Stage 1 and a few lodges being closed midweek prevents you from skiing Killington, I have to wonder why you even bothered to ski there those days to begin with.

I think a lot of people on this board and kzone use the skyship stage 1 midweek

FWIW, now that Powdr has eliminated their CT Ski Council program, I know I won't be buying any vouchers for the odd day I may want to meet up with friends skiing there, or the now non-existant early/late season.
