K has always been packed Thanksgiving weekend way before the WC came around. The access road restaurants have always been packed Thanksgiving weekend, that didn't just start when the WC came around. Is more packed now? Yes, but that weekend was always a moneymaker for the access road.
Hey I am just going by what my friends tell me. They have lived and worked on the access road for 30 years and they say the world cup weekend is a huge boost from the past. I trust thier opinion.

At the pricing they sell the tickets, the concession proceeds, the pay for parking? How can they loose money. Just my opinion but they have to at least break even. Plus what about all the businesses on the access road. My friends that live K and work on the access road say that weekend is a huge boost to them at a time of the year that they usually don't make money.

There's an old (2016) mountaintimes article that gave a few hints: https://mountaintimes.info/2016/12/07/world-cup-big-business-killington/

Having to provide a lot of free lodging that directly costs the resort money, and the prize money on top of all the other obvious costs in hosting a major event is going to add up. Anyone know if FIS takes a cut of the viewing tickets?

Access road businesses may make more money thanks to the event, but for the most part the access road businesses aren't owned by K and so the revenue they might be making largely isn't going to K. (although K does get a cut of the privately-owned lodging that gets rented through their platform).

The Stifel Killington cup vs terrain expansion. Why does Killington continue with the Stifel cup each year? Is it for marketing or day of event revenue? To me I think their dollars are better spent on early season terrain expansion. You'll sell more ski/stay packages with early terrain openings than the Stifel cup. Most skiers don't watch ski racing but all skiers follow terrain openings.
You do realize the two new principal owners in the group are huge into the local and USSA FIS racing scene, yes? I mean, they were on the team that helped bring this event to K. I doubt this event is going anywhere so long as K can keep making it happen.

My point was a Plus. The Access road busniness is something that boosts the community as a whole and helps the area. Loose the event and the area looses some of thier business. That was all I was getting at. I realize that Killington does not make money on the Access road.

Realistically, the village has been talked about for what, 40 years? Full build is in the billions of dollars and many years in the future, if it ever happens.

I don't know that I'd be taking the "plans" for anything beyond Phase I as gospel - and as far as I've seen, Phase I is mostly just the immediate Snowshed/Rams Head core.

The day is finally here! On November 14th, the K-1 Express Gondola and North Ridge Quad, will be open from 9:00 a.m. โ€“ 3:30 p.m to kick off the 2024/25 winter season. The first turns of the season on November 14th will be reserved exclusively for Killington Season Pass, Beast 365 and Ikon Pass holders. Check to see if your pass is good to go using our Online Pass Checker. Season pass holders are invited to enjoy free lunch on Opening Day at the K-1 Lodge, Peak Lodge, or the Subie Shack (located at the bottom of the North Ridge Quad) as a show of gratitude for their commitment to Killington Resort. The resort will open to the general public on Friday, November 15th at 9:00 a.m. and will remain open 7 days a week, weather permitting.

Why has Killington gone the way of Vail and removed all reference to current/recent snowmaking from their trail status report?

The interactive map is currently down โ€œdue to maintenanceโ€ โ€ฆ I presume that is to remove the snowmaking button from that.

Absolutely 1000% a moronic move.

Later in the year it's a bigger deal. But today is not. Just look at the report. Who's to say that they are not going to fix the dam thing. Give em a chance.

"Please note that early season conditions exist, and skiing and snowboarding will be on advanced terrain only. Beginner terrain will not be available to start the season. Walking will be required on the Peak Walkway to exit skiable terrain, however ski/ride access down to North Ridge will be available via Upper Great Northern thanks to increased snowmaking capacity with our new fleet of low-energy snow guns. Last load up the K-1 Gondola will be at 3:30 p.m., and last run down to the North Ridge Quad will be at 3:45 p.m. Great Northern, Rime and Reason will be groomed and there is a chance we have Upper East Fall open, which would remain ungroomed. We will continue to make snow whenever possible over the next couple of days in a few areas on the trails mentioned above and on Superstar in preparation for the Stifel Killington Cup. We canโ€™t wait to see you on the slopes!"

Yeah that's not worth getting "fired up" over, har har.

The website was just redone, my guess is it will be added back or the symbol will show up under Notes.
