Snow control isn’t about if they have enough on the ground on that date. It‘s is there enough now with the forecasted snowmaking production over the coming 10(?) days.

Killington has never failed snow control.

Re: Superstar/WC - key will be production over the 24 hour window starting tonight and the 48 hour window over the weekend, which might just be 48 but some models show longer. Then it warms up next week and into beginning of Thanksgiving week. So not much time before the snow control which if memory serves would be midweek. But with what is down and 72 of snowmaking, they make control.

Re: Ikon - my thought process was to use a tickets 1) IF open in October as I’ve never skied in October; 2) if they were TTB with decent terrain AND local hills (Bromley and Stratton) not open or not offering much; 3) mid week powder day; 4) scenario where mix line is north of local hills, but south of Killington; 5) spring. Of course if I got to February and hadn’t used any tickets I would probably go just to mix it up.

I’m curious how the ikon base members here plan their five killington days?

Met someone at stratton last year said he was saving them all until the spring. I won’t be able to contain myself until then, but I can’t see using one without most of the trails open.

i'm a full ikon pass, mainly to get 7 killington days, and to avoid blackout dates since i ski all major holidays.

i reserve 1 k day for super early, 2 for super late, and 4 for midseason. if i run out, i'm happy to pay a few bucks come may.

yea it stinks burning an ikon day on north ridge + stairs, but its time to go skiing

Don’t worry guys Skiology Matt will have an article detailing whether Killington will make enough snow for the World Cup 😂

I have the utmost confidence they'll get it done but yeah, I think per usual it will come down to the wire.
It looks like it warms up a lot in the runup to Thanksgiving. They'll probably have the requisite depth by the end of this weekend and will use any cold they get in and around Thanksgiving for resurfacing and opening Snowdon. They COULD get TTB by Monday or Tuesday of next week if things play out their way.

Things would need to align perfectly for TTB early next week IMHO. They're currently expanding off the summit on Upper GN, Middle GN and Upper East Fall as well as resurfacing Rime/Reason.

Superstar bottom 2/3 as well.
Noticed that they were blowing U/M GN. just would like to be able to ski down from the gondola to NR next week. Looks like it maybe possible over the weekend.

They could but they won't.

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
Naw...that's lower east fall.

Outside of a couple early season days where that trail had awesome man-made with the K3000s I can't recall a single time enjoying LEF. Heck when the woods weren't in play I took the "lady's tee" most of the time to avoid the complete mess which was the top.

Also fun fact, IIRC, in the early 00s/late 90s I believe the very top of LEF was rated double black, and I totally understand the case for that. The wraparound option onto the rest of the trail was single black.

Starting tomorrow (Saturday), it will be possible to ski down to North Ridge. Stairs back up still required at end of day. Also Upper East Fall is now open. https://www.killington.com/the-mountain/conditions-weather/current-conditions-weather
Unfortunately Not so …
It looks like we can expect some sunshine all weekend long for groomed laps on Rime and Reason. Upper East Fall will be closed today because of a snowmaking repair. We’ll also use the Peak Walkway to get to and from the North Ridge Area for skiing and snowboarding – yes walking is required, however we anticipate being able to ski to North Ridge soon.

Killington doesn't care if they lose the hill. The owners have made the place their flagship of the east. Let it ride, I mean ski.
