Lake Placid Water Ramps

Does anybody have any info about the water ramps up in Lake Placid? Are they open to the public other than signing up for a camp? If so fees, times available, etc……?

I’ve always wanted to try a water ramp but never pursued it. Now that I am getting older, I don’t have the balls to attempt some of the tricks I was doing 10 years ago. It would be nice to spin a 900 again with out the fear of landing on hard packed snow.

The ramp camps look like fun but I’m not sure I want to be “the old guy” hitting the jumps with a bunch of fearless teenagers.

actually, powbmps mentioned this to me a while back. I'm trying to work something out for some blackcomb glacier skiing but that is falling apart due to the almost required camp attendance. If that does in fact fall out, i too would like to try this. Chris was going to get back to me with the details once he talked to the woman in charge. I'll make sure one of us post or pm's you the info.

oh hell no. But the the thought of launching off a ramp with little consequence to the legs is rather appealing.

Keep me posted. How cool would it be to set up an AZ outting at the water ramps? I'm sure Grep could put together a sweet vid from that gathering

I'm working with one of the mogul forum guys to set something up. The woman that handles the ramps will be back from vacation on 5/19. We were hoping to get something organized for a weekend in July or August. I can post up the information when we figure out what is going on (cost, requirements, available dates, etc).

It may require USSA membership, but anyone can become a card carrying member for $60. I tried it in October of '05 (the water was frigid by then). At the time you only needed to sign a waiver and pay $45 for a days worth of coaching. There was three of us in our 30's and two 12 year olds. It was a blast.

I would skip some of the warm up drills though. Those professional grade trampolines are a bit rough. Coarse grit sandpaper rough. "Bounce up and land on your chest." Nothing like landing face first and scorpioning. Good for your back.

I'd be in on that. I'm pretty sure TJF has a bud who is a coach there in the summer. I have a couple of ORDA contacts myself that I could touch base with. I've watched ariels in the summer, those guys are amazing.

Iceman is going back again this summer - he's also going to Whistler for a week in late June.

I'm not really sure what the policy on the public going off the ramps is but it sounds to me like it's doable..

And yes, these are the ramps:

There are a few excellent vids on Youtube of his camp going off the ramps last summer - when I get home I 'll post them here (can't get to Youtube from work)

oh BTW - the ramp most folks would use would be the one on the right in that pic. The other 2 are pretty much reserved for the world class aerialists.... A guy last summer tried going off the middle one (from Icemans' camp) and got injured pretty badly...

One other thing - if you notice the white water on the right side of that pic? Thats the bubbler - they turn that on before each jump to make the landing softer.

He was doing great all day. I just happened to pull the camera out for that beauty.

That was Icemans biggest worry while he was there - he is not way capable of diving down that far to retrieve a ski. Luckily he didn't have to...

What they do is crank the DIN all the way up. They don't want those skis coming off under any circumstances.

Thats the crew Iceman is with - but he won't be there that week. He's gonna be there the early august camp and maybe the lte august camp...

Good luck on the ramps though ;-)

I'm assuming you simply use old ski boots your not worried about getting water logged?
