I first skied Sugarbush in 1996..after ASC dumped 28 million into the place and Murphy's glades was the same..are you origionally from Vermont???

Even back in the late 70's and early 80's I would not have called it a true glade, though the widely spaced birch trees were beautiful. The gladed trail that I miss the most at Sugarbush is Moonshine. They cut all of the trees when the snowmaking was installed. It used to be a black diamond and there were a lot of trees. It was a true glade. Sleeper was also a glade from top to bottom.

Moonshine does not have snowmaking on it.

Sleeper does.

Actually, I take this back. I think they should load up the North map with glades making it more popular than South such that people will demand it's return as the spring skiing spot.
DHS, you are mis-informed. North is THE spring skiing spot at the Bush. You just have to put up a Ben Franklin or two to enjoy it "in style"....

:spin:

This is the trend and expect it to continue. Cannon just did it last year and (thankfully) didn't even make any "improvements" to the glades (which, IMO, makes them too dangerous for the general public in some cases). Putting already established tree lines on the map increases trail count and acres without the resort lifting a finger except changing the trail map. I really appreciate ski areas that don't put a lot of glades on the map. MRG can get away with it because that has a lot of respect there and the trees at MRG speak for themselves to its target demographic. I would expect to see more and more trees put on the map from many ski areas.

Very true. And FWIW despite all the marketing, I only know of one day that they were actually able to do the cat skiing at Ellen, and that was the day that they had the media up there...most of the folks didn't even pay. It is way overpriced IMHO. I get it that it is expensive to offer and all, but they need to figure out a way to bring the cost down a bit and make it easier for one or two people to be able to do it, rather than needing a minimum of 15 or whatever it is.
