How many mountains have the loading conveyors for the lift? I almost made the lift stop today at Mount Snow, I've ridden the thing 10 times without fail but went to put my foot on it, got all squirrelly and to grab the chair in front of me, it was a mess.

It seems like overkill to me, just confusion for the most part.

Mount snow is nice. And they have a lot of female lifties.

i know okemo has a new one on the lower quad, have yet to use it, seems silly to me its not that hard to get on a lift esp a detach.

That conveyor confused me the first time I saw it, and it definitely took a little getting used to. I really don't see the point. If you're having trouble boarding a chairlift heading for the summit, it might be time to re-evaluate your plans for skiing back down the mountain. During the brief time that I taught skiing, I don't ever recall having a student who had real problems poling their way to the chairlift-loading point; anybody who was a little slow just got a hand from one of the lifties anyway. I had lots of students who had problems getting off a chairlift though!

Basically, it strikes me as a solution to a problem that didn't really exist.

I've heard the same thing, but I was at Okemo last Monday (the 24th) and I didn't see any conveyor's on their lifts. Maybe it just wasn't in place yet?

Is the one at Okemo not on a fixed grip??? It seems ridiculous, those detachables go slow enough as it is. I can see the use maybe on a fixed grip. I wanna see one of these things in person - they have me confused.

They are really weird. It had/has me very confused. I think they conveyor moves faster than it brings you, thats why when i put my foot down i got all messed up because my foot went quicker than my board?:dunce:

haha weird. I feel like trying to ride one of those would be harder than skiing most of the terrain on any eastern mountain haha.

I still feel the need to "stop" myself with my poles when the conveyor deposits me at the loading area (At Mt. Snow) I'm kinda used to the thing now though. The best thing to do is to lean on the gate. Once it opens, you roll right onto the belt.

The issue for detachables is getting people to the load board.

As ridiculous as these things are (IMO), something needs to be done re: lift loading inefficiency. Investing in a loading conveyor may be more beneficial than dealing with constant stops and slows.

the one at okemo is on a fixed grip so that might help move things along, but there are two quads right next to each other. and most people use those lift to get to the main mtn. i never really thought there would be a crowd/ line there, but i dont ski there that much.

Bingo! The conveyor at Mount Snow is all about consistantly getting 4 people to the load board, and it does a good job at doing that. IMHO, this past weekend, the Grand Summit Express was stopping less frequently and going up with more full chairs, and efinately was loading more efficiently than the non conveyor Canyon Express and Nitro Express.

The conveyor at Mt. Snow is working well. I think it might really get the chairs on that lift filled up better on busy days. I asked a couple lifties about it this weekend and they both said it was helping skiers load smoothly.

Remember, one thing beginners at Mt Snow like is that there is a begginers trail from the summit, so its normal and expected to have begginers riding the Summit Express Lift (where the conveyor was installed) It's precisely these beginners who will benefit from not having to go through what to them must sometimes feel like a panicked rush to get to the loading point.

I think the conveyor might just be a good idea on this detachable lift.
