I frequent a local seafood place and I usually get a lobster salad roll (the cold kind with lobster, mayo, celery). Normally there is claw & tail meat. Three weeks ago I ordered one and it tasted as if the lobster had been washed as there was no flavor. I started to look at the contents of the salad and I noticed that it was not lobster meat. At first I thought it was shrimp salad, but they do not carry it. After close examination I realized it was langostinos. Basically 100% lango meat. I asked the server and she said there was some lobster in there. I know langos as I get those deep fried with butter or served scampi style. They are great that way but not cold and dressed up as "lobster" salad.
The following week I asked the server and I made a comment about lango meat in the lobster roll. She said it was all lobster and the owner or manager came over and said he personally makes the salad and it is 100% lango meat. After he was out of site, the server said he was lying as the rolls are a mix of lango and lobster.
I ordered the roll and it was 100% lobster meat this time. This past Friday, I ordered one and I was back to lango and some lobster.
My complaint is the this place should put a disclaimer and state that it is not 100% lobster. Langos may taste like lobster when warm & with butter and some countries call langos lobster, but in New England a lobster is the 1 1/4 pounders and up.
So with that said I just finished a real lobster salad roll from D'Angelos. I am not one for chain places, but for the $10 this was superior to the lango meat being passed of as a lobster roll at a "seafood" place.
So I would like some suggestions as to where to get a good lobster roll, either hot or the salad variety.
