Jay used to have a statement on their home page stating they will try to open on November 27. This statement is now gone. I interpret this as they are not to hopeful about opening next weekend.

Raining pretty hard out there this morning. Much as I hate to admit it, I think the pushed back opening dates are very reasonable and it is not a case of resorts being afraid to go for it with limited snow making.
Yeah, the last thing you want is a customer experience that stinks.

I have not looked at a forecast lately, but the biggest problem I've seen is that this warm/marginal weather continues until about Wednesday and then it turns colder. For places that have blown little or no snow, I don't know if there is enough time to get down a base for next weekend. :(

I agree. A few days ago, it looked like it was going to be cool right through next week. But now, looks warm mid week. Most places have the horsepower to lay down snow in a few days...but they need a few cool days to do so.

I don't think Loon opened until December 1st or so in 2006. It was definitely after Thanksgiving. Personally I hated 06-07 since I do most of my skiing early December through early March. Hopefully this year will not be a repeat.

If memory serves me, Loon opened Thanksgiving weekend and closed back down for a week or so.

.

BTW the west is not doing so great either at this point. The upside is to remember that it s still fall. Regardless of the current situation I still believe we're in for a good winter.

Not great but out of the last three falls this has been the best by a mile, at least at my local area.

We all need snow NOWWWWW

As much as it sucks for 'us/me' personally to not have decent skiing available, I feel the most for those who make their livings off of the industry. As someone who lost a pretty good job due to bad weather creating a low revenue winter for a ski resort, I know the fear some of these folks must have at this point.

Wow, are they that quick in laying off people? I personally don't mind this patch of non-skier-friendly weather as long it dumps in the months to come. Burke has yet to start making snow, and today it rained ALL day long. They have tinkered with the guns and they look ready to go. Rob (snowmaker budddy of mine) told me next week they will start, weather permitting of course. Good luck and hope you get back on your feet asap.
