re: Greg having a slow day. HEH! It's a long long non-skiing season (aside from the dozen or so folks still hiking for turns).

I'm back to hoops @ lunch...and whatever sandwich I bring.

I'm noticing that @ 51 (as of next month), my metabolism is continuing to slow down...and my weight is creeping up. @ my physical last month, I wheighed in @ 246...about 10 lb more than what I like the home scale to read in the morning.

I "used" to think the Doc's scale was off, as I've previously dismissed annual weigh-ins of 240+/- as being due to clothes and daily intake. I always thought I'd drop back to about 225/235. It was never surprising for me to cycle around a 5lb variance from day to day.

But now...looks like I'm going to be hangin in the 240 range. The extra wt and the age are affecting my vertical leap. I never had real good vert. At best, I could touch the top of the square over the hoop. But now...*sigh* I've lost about a foot of vert...plus it takes me longer to get that high (fast-twitch vs slow twitch muscles).

One the one hand, @ 51 still playing with college kids and guys ranging from early 20's to mid 30's...I'm doing OK. On the other hand...I remember playing better.

re: 6'11"...erraahhhh...6'9". Ya, the 521 part of my name (cuz that guy with "MY" handle who has never posted a single message) is for 5' 21" (I got tired of answering the "how tall are you" question so I got "inventive")

re: getting me mad....I'm your typical Tall Guy...very slow to anger. We were @ a wedding rehearsal party about two weeks ago...and two schlumpers came into the bar area. One guy started sort of hitting on my wife. My wife introduced "us" to each other. I put a handshake on the guy he's still recovering from. His quote..."I guess me and my pal should be leaving now." I walked the two guys out of the place and watched them drive off.

ah....testosterone. *smirk*

You can still dunk right? I think I lost all hopes of dunking when I stopped growing at 5'11". Being under 6' and white pretty much makes the chances of dunking slim to none:lol:. My vertical is probably close to 30" now, probably would need to get to 3' to dunk it. What did you play for college ball, division 1? I bet you would still destroy me even at 51.

re: dunk...*sigh*...yes, but only if I really work for it. I don't know what it is I lost....but it included a lot of vert.

re: College...I played for U Maine Orono, one year. I graduated with 154 credits (Forestry Industrial Engineering)...so I went to school while the team practiced. Quite a quantum leap in talent pool from HS to college...and back then I was just 205 / 215...a bean pole. Ah well...the up-side was, I played intramurals and had a lot more fun. U Maine had a decent team but they got hammered regularly. Not fun. In contrast, I was on the 3 and 5-man campus championship teams for intramurals. I also played when I was in the Army (in Italy). We played a lot...and it really helped my game.

As for you vs me....I have long arms and a large 1st step, so what I lost in speed is somewhat still covered. Plus, there's always the rebounding issue.

30" is pretty darn good white-boy. Congrats. Do you play hoops?

I play at the park a lot with my friends. Just a lot of pick-up 5 on 5 games and stuff like that. I don't really like teams sports and I really don't like the kids that play on my school team so I don't play for my school. I really don't take it that seriously, I just like to play for fun.

You guys get Nachos? You're so lucky, we get nothing good. They don't even let us have ice cream because they say it has too much fat.

Is that supposed to be a lot or a little for lunch?? If you think it's a lot just wait... Crappy lunch at my work's cafeteria is over $5 a day... If I went out for anything other than fast food :puke: it would be even more.

If I spend under $7 on lunch that would be a good deal. I bring lunch everyday and I probably spend more than $2.50 on the food at the supermarket.

I started bringing lunch too, and I definitely spend more than $2.50 per day at the supermarket. It actually ends up being close to $5/day anyway, but the food is better...

The lunches used to be $1.50. Then $1.75 and finally $2.50:)angry: ). This is bad considering the food is horrible and I will get a slice of bad pizza and a milk for $2.50. One time they used left over burger tops for the bottom of the pizza. One time we had a strike against the cafeteria. :uzi: Then we were hungry so we got lunch. Although some people remembered gto bring lunch. And they always overcook or undercook everthing.
