Date(s) Skied: Thursday March 24, 2011
Ski Area: Mad River Glen - Waitsfield, VT
Conditions: Powder, Packed Powder
Trip Report:
After reading a dreary forecast the night before and awakening to a bright sunny blue sky my spirits where instantly lifted. We loaded the gear, snagged a coffee and headed north up route 100 from Ludlow towards the Mad River Valley. Being a Thursday morning deep in the month of March there was no pressing need to rush and a leisurely cruise ensued with several stops along the way to admire the beauty of the Green Mountains!
We arrived at that infamous crook in VT Route 17 to find no more than 10 cars in the parking lot at 10am, proceeded to snag a $39 ticket, boot up in the lodge and head out for some turns. It was shaping up to be one of those days that I cherish at this special place to ski!
It was pretty much up and down until we headed into the bar for lunch around 1pm. The hill was so empty that it was rare to have someone within sight while riding the single! This was surprising as the snow, although far from epic was pretty damn nice. A mix of chopped up powder, pack powder and some slightly sun crusted stuff over a very deep and firm base. Pretty much ski anywhere you want and we did!
The lunch special was a corned beef reuben w/ fries and a draft beer of your choice for $11.50 which I enjoyed sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace. As hard as it was we did manage to head back out after lunch and rallied to ski the hill until the final bell.
Ahhhhhh..... nothing finer than a midweek day at MRG to put everything in perspective and set your mind at ease!
Here's some pictures, Enjoy!!
