Resort or Ski Area: Maple Ski Ridge, Schenectady NY

Conditions: Man made packed powder with grooming

Trip Report:
Time to show some love to a small, local ski area. I got to Maple Ski Ridge for first chair this morning and stayed for a little over an hour. Only the triple chair was open; no need to open the double as the lack of crowds didn't justify opening it, not to mention that there aren't any trails you can't get to by taking the double. No more than 10-20 people there for the first hour, though there was a line at the ticket window when I left around 10:30. Snow skied very nicely.

Some pics: (pictures were taken about 10 minutes before opening time)
Slopeside Parking - gotta love it. Put my skis on at my car and skied away. No walking.

Looking up the double-chair. Hickory Way is on the left; Spruce Run is on the right. I can get about 16 runs in per hour on the double-chair (Yeah, it's a small hill).

Looking down Ridge Run underneath the Triple Chair. I can get about 13 runs in per hour on the triple-chair.

Maple Ski Ridge does a pretty nice job with grooming

New this year - Turnstiles and the "Snow Dag" lift ticket system. Just stick your pass (same size as a credit card) inside your pocket, and as you approach the turnstile, the system will detect your pass and let you through the turnstile. I've never seen this anywhere before, and it's pretty neat. No need for the lifties to have to check your ticket anymore. For non-season-pass holders, you can just keep your card, reload it from home, and skip the ticket window on your next visit. It was a bit difficult my first few times getting my poles through the turnstile, but I saw a ski patrol guy lift his poles over the top bar of the turnstile before going through, and that seems to work nicely.

Looks great! Keep meaning to get up there at least once as it is relatively close. Nice to support the local hills whenever possible.
