You know, it's amazing I made it as far as an engineer as I have.

Nice one.

A couple of weeks ago we replaced the bar in our apartment, and I wanted the shape to be 1/2 an elipse. I remembered how to draw one- two tacks and a loop of string- but I couldn't remember how to figure out how far apart to put the tacks or how long the string had to be to get teh size and shape of elipse I wanted.

Long story short, I spent an hour looking it up, another hour trying to make it work, and 1/2 an hour doing trial-and-error in frustration. After I got the shape Iwanted, I cracked open a beer, and suddenly realized how blindingly simple it is to figure out.

Moral of the story: Never attempt geometry without a beer.

The bar we built last year looked like it was built by a clan of mentally challenged monkeys. It was crooked and wobbled all over. Fittingly, we named it the "drunken skier".

Easy! My 8th grade special needs students know the answer to this, it's 5cm.

Pythagorean Theorem guys! The sum of the square of the 2 sides of the right triangle are equal to the square of the hypotenuse.
