I've gotten some PM's regarding deleted or missing threads.

Please remember that the mods in here do their best to move things into the respective room (i.e. an announcement about an event posted in the ski forum will be moved to 'Trips and Events'). In most cases, you should get a PM from the moderator(s) who move the item, but in real life, we're all busy folks (and in my case, too busy ), so sometimes that PM might not go out.

In any case, if you notice your thread missing or not in the last place where you had it, and it wasn't spammy, check the other rooms and then contact any one of us.

Also remember that you all get Email notifications of when your thread is responded to so if you're missing your thread and you're still getting E-mails, it is on here somewhere

We DON'T leave 'shadow topics' to keep things less cluttered...

Sorry for the confusion and think snow!

Just to clear things up, I don't get notifications unless I turn it on when I post (the "Notify me when a reply is posted" check box). I'm not sure if this is the default state or not though.

It's off by default.

Thanks thats what I thought, but I didn't want to say so for sure since I have a habit of changing the default settings when I first register for a forum and then forget I did it. ;)

what's a shadow thread?

When mod moves a thread (topic) they have to option of leaving a 'shadow' thread in the original forum. It serves as a link to the new thread location.

I think that sometimes, people create new threads on a topic because the older one has become so many pages long. I know I did that with a thread that was one of the guessing games, because for me, and anyone else that has a tracking problem, or any type of learning disability, the thread becomes too confusing when multiple items are posted.

In the case I am talking about, descriptions of areas were posted and people guessed on their identity. In a similar thread, the photo id thread, a similar thing also occurred. People would add new items before the answer was given and/or comment on old clues. It was very hard for me to follow.

I made a new thread. It was removed.

i had no problems focusing on the old thread in question. what makes things confusing are when two active threads are covering the same topic. the mods have done a fantastic job ensuring double threads do not occur.

the problem is inherent in the "guessing" type thread. multiple questions may be alive at the same time and it is best to reply using quotes at that point. starting a new thread does not solve the "guessing" thread problem, but only doubles it.

Agreed, completely. What's the difference if a thread has 3 pages or 30? Once you get past a couple of pages, it's negligible IMO. Great jobs, mods!

It may be confusing. But in this case, a lot of folks have taken it upon themselves to 'bring forward' those items that had not been guessed. This should be the standard IMHO because if you are interested enough to throw it out there, you naturally should be interested to see the answer(s).

I will admit that I often stay away from those threads that get too long, but I concur with what has been said in that I'd rather have one long thread than many, many threads of the same topic.

Well, if you had LD and/or tracking difficulties you would NOT agree!

I guess I am in a no win situation here because none of you obviously have this problem, so it doesn't matter to you.
